    "Very noticeable ghosting"

by bluublur on October 18, 2006

Pros: Good picture, design, and menus

    Cons: Ghosting in dark scenes

Summary: My parents just bought this TV in August at Circuit City in Fresno. It was great during bright scenes, and sports looked great on ESPN HD and with Over-the-AIR HDTV channels. However I noticed some ghosting during dark scenes. It is currently hooked up via HDMI (Monster Cable) to the DISH NETWORK ViP622 DVR receiver and Sony DVD Player (DVP-NS75H) via HDMI (Monster Cable). Ghosting showed up while watching the movie RV (during dark/night scenes) and watching movies on TNT HD, HDNET movies and other channels. The Technician came by 10/16/06 and quickly acknowledged the ghosting problem. He ordered a Video Processor? (not sure of exact part) and will install in about 10 days. I will post an update once the part is installed with the details of exactly what part was installed and if it fixed the problem. The picture still looks great, but the ghosting does become very annoying once you begin to notice it. I could find no other postings of anyone having this same problem.

I have the same ghosting problem. Seems to be only on non-HD formats. I have comcast cable and was told that I may have a weak signal due to splitting. Will try a cable signal booster. Any resolution on your end?

I have this TV and feel that it is a good value, but I have been having some picture issues that I think may be caused by the cable box (Comcast). On occasion there are irregular red botchy patches in the dark scenes. This is sometimes remedied by shutting down the box or the TV (both have worked). I hae switched the box output to 1080i and that seems to have alleviated the problem, at least for now. Connection is by HDMI. Is this what you were seeing?

I noticed the same ghosting problem on our tv when watching shows that had dark scences and when watching a black and white movie. Let me know if the technician is able to fix your problem.
