"Great picture. Sound is superb, when you can hear it!"

    by ArtSee1 on May 9, 2007

    Pros: Picture quality, features, style

Cons: Sound cut-off problems - PLEASE READ!

Summary: I was going to comment on the updated post by mcooperstein on May 1, 2007 but I wanted this comment and rating to be 'right out there'
I purchased the LN-T3253H from Circuit City on March 3, 2007. While I love the picture and host of features, the sound problem mentioned by mcooperstein is a known issue with Samsung and they have not as yet identified the problem. While it seems to be related to the HMDI connection, it is Samsungs problem and not a fault with every conceivable device that connects to the LN-T3253H. I've tried more than one cable box and the trouble stays with the Samsung.
I phoned Samsung (1-800-726-7864) today and confirmed that there is a known issue and yes, they would like to pin it on other products but that won't cut it. I was advised to contact them again before my 30 day return option expires. I would love to keep this TV but if this issue is not resolved, it goes back.
The frequency of this sound loss is of course proportional to the amount of time the set is on. As a test, I had the set on for 6 hours the other day and the sound dropped three times. This is totally unacceptable.
I would have rated this set an 8 or higher but given the unfortunate sound issue, it will get a 2. I will gladly update this post when and if the problem is resolved.

Anyone know if Samsung is now shipping with the sound problem factory corrected or do buyers still have to call for firmware upgrade. Also, since most Cable TV ch`s are still SD, how is the picture quality with a
standard cable feed ? I understand the Panasonic TC-32LX700 displays SD fairly well.

I would like to buy this model. Does anyone know if Samsung is now shipping the product without the sound problem?

Hey, listen, do not wait to return your set. Samsung will try to delay you until your return option is over and then ...... No new piece of equipment with that kind of price tag should malfunction as seriously as that, period. Return it for new Samsung, or a different brand.

See my comment here but go to Amazon.com's Audio Drop Out comments at bottom of their customer reviews. There are in excess of 30 posts. Here's the bottom line in your case. Return it and reset the 30day clock. Maybe get another one. If you want to deal with this as it is a nice unit otherwise...If their "thumb drive firmware" fix does not take care of it...demand that the tech replaces the main board and integrated sound card. That will take care of the issue. It's a prob with many sizes in their LNT series LCD HD. This years early production models prior to April. I've spoken with Samsung and have received emails posted again on Amazon. I've spoken with another Circuit City buyer out in the Boston area and that's what they did for him. It was a done deal. Look again at my posts on the 3253 blog at Amazon.com. I've bought Sony's Bravia KDL 40S3000 for my parents. Waiting to see further communication from Samsung for a 32 & 40 for my wife and I. I think they just need a little time. Technology continues to evolve with newer hardware cables (HDMI) and even the signal coming in from providers of broadcasting. All of this makes a difference in customer satisfaction. But early '07 Samsung models have a main board & sound card prob is my take. Otherwise wait it out and buy a $200 standard generic. Luck!!!

Called Samsung bc I was having that frequent HDMI audio drop out problem that everyone seems to be talking about. They sent a tech out who gave the TV a software upgrade using the USB port. He seemed extremely confident that this would fix the problem and seemed very knowledgeable about it once I explained what was going on. Said something about the old software was transmitting in 1:1 HDMI and the new software transmitts in 1:3. Havent had the problem again but its only been a day. Hope that helps but it seems to be a problem with lots of TVs too.

I am confused about the whole sound drop issue. Does this only occur through the set's native built-in speakers? What if I have a stereo receiver with speakers hooked up to the TV? Will I have any problems with the sound then?
    Thanks for any help.

got a hold of a samsung tech and was told the problem is with the hdmi to hdmi connect ..... it doesn't support dolby digital ...... to correct you have to set the tv to stereo .....
my problem occured with the hdmi connect to my dvd/vcr combo ........ if i use the optical connect to my surround sound receiver i have not had the problem ..... and my cable box is a dvi to hdmi with 2 rca cables for sound .... i've not had a problem with that .......... samsung doesn't seem to be concerned with a fix ..... i'm curious to know why the tv works for a while in dolby then when it scans and recognizes it drops it .... would seem like a easy fix that could be sent i an update ..... going to give samsung 1 more try before i decide whether or not to return for a sony xbr2 .......only because samsung picture is the best ......

got a hold of a samsung tech and was told the problem with the sound drop is in the hdmi connect when the tv is set to dolby digital... if set to stereo problem should be solved .... i only had the problem with hdmi to hdmi on the dvd/vcr and can bypass using the optical port to my surround sound system ..... in doing so i have not experienced a drop ..... as for my cable my set top box is dvi to hdmi and i use 2 rca cables that support dolby digital and have not had a sound drop with this connection as of yet ........ samsung doesn't seem to be concerned with a fix ....... i'm curious to know why dolby will work for awhile until the tv acknowledges it's dolby then drops it .... would seem samsung should be able to send a fix for this ...... debating whether or not to exchange for a sony xbr2 ....... going to try samsung 1 more time before i decide ..... really do like the picture and can't be beat....
