Cons: Optical jack outputs only 2-channel audio w/ HDMI
Summary: I have been very impressed with the quality of image, including color, sharpness and contrast. I have this set up with inputs from UHF antenna, cable and my computer (via HDMI) and the picture I get from each is great.
However I am disappointed by the optical output. I am using my computer as a media center, with a video card that can also output 5.1 audio (ATI HD 2600 XT), and was hoping I could use the optical output to feed my 7.1 stereo system (Samsung HT-AS720ST). But buyers should be aware that the optical jack on this TV only outputs 2-channel audio when HDMI inputs are connected. This is a problem for me. Feeding HDMI through the receiver first doesn’t work because the video card gets confused by the presence of the receiver, messing up the screen resolution and creating other problems as well. So, in the end, I cannot effectively use the audio-over-HDMI feature of my video card with this TV.
Other Samsung HD TVs can output 5.1 audio from the optical jack even when the HDMI inputs are used, but I happened to pick this model, which doesn’t.

If you're using optical output for your audio coming out of your media center PC, shouldn't you have the optical running into your 7.1 receiver instead of into your TV?

This bypasses the need to run audio through HDMI... my only guess is you probably don't have a sound card that has an optical audio out.
