"Superb Televison but Sony wins by a hair."
Pros: deeeeep blacks, 120hz is very noticable, great price
Cons: Very reflective panel, Samsung over boasts the Contrast ratio a bit.
Summary: This TV (in my opinion) is the 2nd best HDTV out there under 5000 dollars. I had this one for 2 and a half weeks and loved it! But I later returned it for the Sony XBR4. Deciding between them was a difficult decision (kinda like choosing which one of your children is your favorite). But I had to give it to the Sony mainly on the fact that the sony was a little better with Cable HD and the reflective screen was a pain in the butt on sunny days (and I am the kind of person who likes to have the windows open and let the sun in on a beautiful day). The 120Hz feature is much more noticable on this set than the XBR4. But the Sony's version of 120hz is much smoother. The easiest way to put it is that the Sony's 120hz feature is "smooth" and the Samsungs version is just plain "RAW" which is a good thing in my book because I absolutly love 120hz feature and the more noticable the better I think. But I will admit that sometimes the 120hz creates a wierd "clear glow" around moving objects sometime (especially around still objects that have a moving background). But I will tell you this: if you are an owner of this televison and you wish you bought the sony, Don't fret! They are very very close and if I still had the Samsung I would be almost just as happy. In fact, I am gong to be getting this TV again for Christmas. I am going to keep the XBR4 in my living room, put the 71F in my bedroom and I am waiting on the price to go down on one of the new 60 inch elite pioneer 1080p plasmas so I can put it in my Theater room.
