"A quality build with great performance..."

by patterson on April 30, 2007

    Pros: Detailed, accurate image

Cons: Some say the glossy screen reflects, but it "don't"

Summary: I researched and saved and held off for nearly three years. If this LN-T5265F doesn't "wow" you, you just plain "ain't "wowable". Think about taking up golf or bowling instead of lurking in A/V forums.

I'll merely touch on some of the high points of this product. Here's a link to the owners' thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=835853&page=1&pp=30&highlight=offical+samsung+4665+5265+owners+thread

Should you opt to purchase, there is also a calibration thread.

I don't know if you can open the above link if you are not a member, but membership is completely harmless just like here at www.cnet.com.

After reading each and every post regarding clouding Sonys, banding Sharps, etc., I didn't expect a whole lot from Samsung. With it's 15000 to 1 contrast ratio, and the new "clear panel" the image reproduction in HD is nearly unbelievable. And yes, for those plasma black crush anal retentive folks out there, I did compare it to a high end plasma on Blu Ray at BB; an $8,000 package by the way. I'll still give a slight nod to the plasma camp on the ever popular black levels, but the visual acuity of this LCD is of such a high level, that I dare any other format to come close.

The only competition I see on the horizon may be the upcoming Sony line for 2007, or the yet to be released Samsung "81" series with the LED light engine. Projected CR's in the 50,000 to 1 area for the "81" series. I still may opt for the "81" if it arrives in time, but in view of the new technology, and anticipated pricing not yet known but I suspect quite steep, I think I'll just stay where I am. Sony, or anyone else for that matter, will have to really go a looooong way to outperform this TV.

We have replaced our CRT's on an as needed basis. Having a Samsung LN-S2351W in the bedroom, I had somewhat of an idea of what to expect. For the first three evenings, and before even opening the owner's manual on the LN-T5265F, I made the mistake of staying up late and watching 'til 3 a.m. Believe what you wish, but I ended up with horrible headaches trying to watch this 52" at the factory "dynamic" torch mode. The whites are a Titanium white. Adjust the set at BB, then stand back, and you can see this Samsung pop with brightness at every bit of forty to fifty feet. As I say, believe what you wish. Try it yourself. It was sitting, luckily, right next to the Sony KDL46XBR2.

The LNT-4665F, the 46" version of this same set, can now be bought for less than what some of the big box guys are "blowing out" the very soon to be obsolete Sony.

Somehow, Cnet saw fit to do yet another review on the KDL52XBR2,3 after giving the KDL46XBR2 their Editor's Choice Award. www.sonystyle.com isn't even showing the 52" last time I visited. I feel this is a shame. I anticipate quite high marks for the LN-T series.

We had first planned on purchasing the LN-T4665, both for monetary reasons and also feeling that the 46" would be adequate at my 8.5' and my wife's 11' viewing distance. It was a difficult sell, but after now owning the 52" even she admits that it's the right size for our environment. I was afraid of image deterioration when going up the 6" in screen size, but this has not been the case. If anything, the larger size tends to accentuate the clarity of this set.

The LN-T is currently not handled in my area by CC, nor is it stocked by BB. BB does have a few in the warehouse. I bought the 52" sight unseen from the LN-T4665F. Out of the gate, you'll pay c. $1000 more for the 52" over the 46", but with some brutal negotiations, you can soften the blow to a few hundred dollars. Well worth the differential in my opinion.
