CNET Editors' Take

CNET did not review the Samsung LN40A530, but we did review a larger model in a different series with similar specs.

Review:

Although CNET did not review the 40-inch Samsung LN40A530, we did review the 46-inch Samsung LN46A550. Judging from their spec sheets, the two Samsung flat-panel LCDs are basically identical but for screen size, panel luminance, and the exclusion of a flash USB port, so we expect the review of the 46-incher to give a good indication of how the 40-inch model will perform. The difference in panel luminance should have a negligible impact on picture quality. For more information, refer to the full review of the Samsung LN46A550.

"Garbage - $1000 for 2years of viewing then throw away!" By cabaretewilliam

Pros: None. None!

Cons: Samsung built a toss away $1000 TV. The T-Con Board failed but because it isbuilt into the main board itwill cost $1000 to repair.

Summary: My last ever purchase of anything by Samsung. There are thousands more of this model that havefailed in the same way. Just google the problem - no picture but still has sound - and you will see that this TV was made to fail within 2 years.

"Recall issue" By indyfaithful

Pros: Television had great picture.... but didn't last

Cons: Lasted for a year and one month.

Summary: Don't buy. These televisions have a known capacitor issue. Mine lasted for one year before it started to take longer to turn on...then eventually stopped coming on at all. Repair covered for the capacitors but...of course...there is also an uncovered power supply issue...who saw that ... Expand full review
