"Samsung's Theme Song: "Take the Money and Run""
on by fetchezlavachePros No pros from my point of view
Cons Soon after the warranty expires, problems happen
Summary Samsung TVs are plagued with problems soon after the warranty expires. As a manufacturer, Samsung is in the lower third for brand reliability according to Consumer Reports with a product repair rate more than twice such competitors as Sony and Sharp. In my case, the LCD panel is now defective on one side of the screen. Takes about 30 minutes for the TV to warm up before the left side returns to normal. During the first 30 minutes, the image on the left side is dimmed and blurred to the point that it becomes unviewable. When contacted by me, Samsung customer service responded that because the product warranty of one year had expired they could not provide me with any "accommodations". They also offered an apology for "... any inconvenience." Problem is that I have read elsewhere on the internet that individuals with the exact same problem as mine have reported that because the defective part is no longer manufactured that the TV cannot be fixed. In hindsight I wish I had bought an extended warranty. At least I would have gotten the purchase value back and could have used the money to purchase another TV. Needless to say that Samsung will not be under consideration when I buy my next TV.

"A nice 40 inch TV well worth the price"
on by mike8204Pros Nice size for my living room & the HD quality is great!
Cons color & picture sharpness needs a small amount of tweaking
Summary Overall, I love this TV. I bought it from BestBuy on sale for 549.00! You will not be disappointed by this one!

"Decent TV for when it came out. Now outdated."
on by ThunderboltSuxPros Innexspensive and well built, this was solid for when it came out.
Cons The color is off right out of the box. It's nothing you can't adjust but compared against some of the newer t.v.s it really is mediocre for an LCD.
Summary I got this a little after it came out. It's a good TV, and overall I like it, until you compare it to the newer Samsungs. I would definitely go for a newer generation as the color is much better on those, as is the refresh rate.

"A good deal for an entry level tv"
on by gregghaighPros Good color accuracy, excellent black levels, plenty of connections
Cons cannot properly handle 1080p/24 sources, colors are not as good as some other sets in price range
Summary All in all a great tv especially if found for a good deal. I would disagree with David and crew and give the D550 the edge over the Sony. With better black levels and twice as many connections. Altough, I will admit that it is personal preference between better black levels and connections vs better color accuracy and video processing.
