"Beats the higher priced edge-light LEDs"5.0 starson by mythrol
Pros: PRICE!!!! Very good black levels and tons of settings to tweak your image. Handles PC inputs very well over VGA and HDMI.
Cons: You won't get the same blacks as local dimming LED (but you also don't have to pay the extremely inflated markup either)
Summary: I was upgrading from a no name 32" LCD that I purchased over 5 years ago. I was willing to spend up to $2000 on a 46-47" tv to get the best image and features. The first tv I actually purchased was the Samsung UN46c6300 tv which is an edge-lit led lcd tv. That set had great colors but it had very bad black level uniformity issues and what almost looked like diffused flashlights in each of the corners which would stick out as much as 3 - 4 inches, brightening the blacks in all 4 corners (worse in the bottom 2). After almost a week I couldn't take it anymore and brought the tv back. It produced a great picture but especially at night time, the black level issues were VERY distracting.
After doing research I determined that edge-lit LED LCD's just aren't advanced enough yet. The best buy rep was actually shocked when I told him I wanted to exchange my LED LCD for a "regular old LCD". Once I arrived home, after powering on and tweaking the calibrations this tv produces an almost IDENTICIAL image to the similar but $500 more expensive LED Samsung.
If I had to nitpick I'd say the black levels on the edge-lit LED was maybe a hair darker. However even that is an overstatement of the difference, as set up at my home, I can not tell a noticable difference. Where I do see a difference is in black level uniformity and flashlighting. On the LN46C630 these problems simply do not exist. Blacks are black, colors look fantastic, and every format I've thrown at it has displayed well (1080p, 720p, 480p, PC over VGA and HDMI). I've also noticed no input lag while playing video games (however I haven't tried this out extensively).
Overall I am completely and utterly blown away by the performance of this tv. From my eyes this tv performs identical to the more expensive edge-lit LED LCD's Samsung offers. Not only that but, the front of the tv's are the same, you get the same backlit remote, and all of the setting options are there that were present in the "higher end" tv. The only thing I can think is that Samsung uses the same parts and screens for these tv's except one is LED edge-lit and one is CFL backlit.
Do not buy into the hype of the edge-lit LED's. This is THE BEST 46-47" TV under $2000 and you only have to pay half that to get it.
