"700 or 800 series" on by swips88
Pros: Slim design is nice compared to previous samsung models. All the pluses that Samsung LCD's are known for - great color rendering, black levels, features etc.
Cons: price at $2600.- was a little more than I originally wanted to spend and a premium above 600-700 series. Stand is wobbly as all Samsung stands seem to be. As I use it I will add more comments.
Summary: I was trying to decide between LN52A750 or LN52A850 -860 and was ready to choose the 750 due to price being $600 less but could not find it anywhere in local stores - end of Thanksgiving weekend. Last store I went to did have the 750 but 2 salesmen there were adamant that 860 has a better picture than the 600 or 700 series. Hard for me to discern much difference however but after watching both sets for about half an hour I started to notice more depth and better colors on the 860 on certain material. One thing about video - the more you watch the more you notice. These salespeople who are in the store all day looking at these sets do notice differences that the guy off the street may not. In the end Salesman offered another $200 off so in the end it only cost $400. above the 750.
That is not to say that you should believe whatever a salesman says of course. Most businesses will push what they make a better profit on and what they have in stock so buyer beware.
CNET lists these sets as basically all the same 600-700-800 series.
While the specs may look very similar, there are probably differences
in manufacturing resulting in a different picture quality from each.
One thing I discovered which I could not get a handle on from all the online information was that the 530 and 630 series are the only sets with a matte screen and if you prefer the less glossy less reflective screen (for a bright room) then those are the only options - at this time.
I will add to my comments as I discover what I like and don't like about the 860.
Another thing about CNET user comments is that it seems everyone likes the set they have. Most people tend to say their decision was great and very few will say they wish they bought something else. Plus of course once you get it home you do not have 50 other sets to compare it to! -
"Excellent set. Best value for the money by far" on by samtern19067
Pros: The excellent oicture, the versitility in the setup, the great colors and theiir range
Cons: Glossy frame
Summary: shopped high and low and compared just about everything that was out there. I looked at the LED backlight as well as the conventional backlighted LCD sets. I found the samsung ln52a860 to offer a better piture then others and with the internet pricing felt it to be by far the best value for the money.
I had the opportunity to see this set side by side with the other top of the line sets both plasma and LCD. This set offered the best detail of the LCD's and matched the colors of the plasma's including the black levels. The PlayStation 3 games are assume on this set.
I did an extensive amount of research before deciding on a set. I know I got the best value for the money with this purchase. Obviously I can't say enough about it. -
"Best bang for the buck" on by SuperGeek81
Pros: Good picture,
Good sound
Good size
fairly thin for an LCD of this size
Great priceCons: samsung remote is less then perfect
Summary: I got this tv on sale from microcenter for 1200 bucks over a year ago. I love the size and playing Xbox360 on it or a move makes it feel like you are at the movies. The picture is not quite as good as the Sony, i have a 32in in my bedroom. But the TV is very good.

"5 Star TV in 2008" on by ahsieh130
Pros: Best picture quality at the time.
Cons: A bit pricey.
Summary: It's been 1.5 years since I bought it in May 2009. At the time, the ultra thin panels were just coming out at almost twice the price I bought this TV for but I wasn't convinced that the new panels had a better picture. The new panels certainly didn't justify their price at the time, but now they're much more reasonable. Today, even at a lower price point, I don't think the TV really can compare to the TVs that have just been released. I'm still very happy with my purchase and I probably will not be in the market for another until a drastic change is made in TV technology.

"Fantastic picture." on by TKC44
Pros: Razor sharp picture, functionality, 120hz. many settings
Cons: sound. (Yes, its as bad as everyone says.) that is why I rated 4 stars
Summary: When looking for a tv, i had a space issue with the armoire. I had a max of 33" in height. So i had few choices. I was originally looking at the Samsung 46" A650, but wanted something bigger. Then I was on the 50" Panny plasma. Then I finally found what I was looking for. This TV is Ridiculously awesome. Blu-ray is so sharp, its scary. PS3 is great.
As with everything else I have read about this tv. The sound is sub par. for random quick tv watching, its adequate, but if you need some serious sound when you watch your blu-ray, make sure you have a home theatre system. And I would assume if you are looking seriously purchasing this tv, then you have a good home theatre system.
Good luck.
