"THE COLORS! ! !"on by weewoo87
Pros Wow! This plasma had to be the deal of the century. The colors are almost spot on right out of the box. After a little tweaking with HD Basics it really shines. 3 HDMI inputs, PC input, and cool touch panel controls make this 50" plasma a great buy!
Cons Black level is good. Not as great as Panasonic's X1 but the Sammy looks sharper, brighter, and has better color reproduction. The screen glare and the glossy black bezel which attracts fingerprints is the only downfall.
Summary Did I mention the swivel stand and the fact that I picked this set up for only $879.99 at my local HH Gregg. Can't beat it for 50". I compared this and the X1 side-by-side, calibrated both in the store to my liking (in dark showroom), and had to go with the Sammy. I really wanted the Panny because I'm kind of a fanboy, but o well. Image retention is not an issue as long as you BREAK IN YOUR PLASMA!!! Don't get your set, crank up the contrast and brightness and watch ESPN or play games. You will have burn-in guranteed. However, there are pixel shift and scrolling black/white bar features built-in if need be.
720p never looked so good. Blu-ray and my 11 HD channels look amazing. I couldn't justify the size/price/performance of a smaller 1080p LCD versus this plasma. Blacks still look better on this plasma than a LCD at comparable price.
Pros Great value. Don't miss 1080p. Can't discern extra resolution. Glare not bothersome at all, in fact lends to depth, vibrancy of picture. Blacks are deeper on Panasonic plasmas, but this one perfectly acceptable once in home and not side by side.
Cons Nagging possibility of burn - in, even though hasn't happened at all in the 1 month owned.
Summary I researched 4 years before deciding. Bottom line is this set beats the best plasmas of just 2 or 3 years ago for a fraction of the cost. For me, $825 plus tax was too enticing. Viewing at any angle is perfect. The next Samsung plasma up the rung is the pn550 and for $400 more, can't justify the little upgrade in picture. I also considered the Panasonic x1 'cause blacks are deeper, but cnet says it has bad pc monitor and standard def. performance. No review for Samsung, but based on all other Samsungs' reviews, those areas shine. And first hand, I confirm.
Pros paid 879.00 at hhgregg for a 50" flat panel hd tv
plasma is supperior to lcd in all ways other than energy consumption. dont believe the hype
excelent picture, color are vivid, very bright, excelent contrast
Cons for the price paid there are no cons.
Summary bottom line is that plasma has a better picture (color, black levels ect) all around than lcd. and anyone that thinks they cant live without 1080p is kidding themselves. the tv has a black glossy bezel. Some might consider it plain though it is still sleek and classy. Swivel stand is a nice touch. Unless your are going for a new LED television, there is no need to spend thousands more for a comparable size 1080p lcd unless you are filthy rich and enjoy wasting money
Pros amazing picture right out of the box with very little tweaking needed for calibration. blacks are very good(better than the most expensive LCD) outside panel is gorgeous. Even SD programs look good. HD content is breath taking. The PRICE is incredibl
Cons there is a buzz but its very faint. You cant even hear it when the vol. is up or above "10" i probably wouldn't have even noticed it if i had never read up on it before i bought it...my family hasn't said anything about it.
Summary it doesnt have all the dings n whistles the premium level tv's have(like internet capability and all that) but samsung doesnt skimp on the most important things for their entry level tv's ...the PICTURE quality! and contrast ratio is very good also it has plenty of HDMI slots(3, including a side one) it is 3D ready for the future... and very modern looking panel that is gorgeous.
"Amazing TV"on by nikkibee26
Pros Great color, clarity, sharpness, no blur, and all for a lot less than comparable televisions.
Cons Nothing so far...
Summary The color was perfect out of the box. The black is incredible. Watching Blu-ray discs is amazing. All of the actions scenes looked great with no blurring, The speakers are very good, sound quality reamins high at max volume (no cracking or distortion). After shopping around and hours of research, I decided on this model for a balance of price and quality. While on the low end of pricing for a 50", it's performance is over the top. I personally can't tell the difference between the 1080 and 720 (as I believe is true for most consumers). I highly recommend this television! For $800 at Best Buy it was a steal!
