"PN58C8000 = Over Promised Under Delivered"1.5 starson by BigRoc009
Pros: The colors pop, the picture looks good, looks great compared to LED/LCD's, the set is easily adjustable/calibrated, cool light up remote, great estetics...looks good just sitting there.
Cons: The advertised MJC (motion judder canceler) is a joke! A great deal of artifacting whith MJC on, picture stutters and shakes and is very blury with MJC off, terrible Samsung support for issues, very blurry movement
Summary: This is a good tv, not great, but good. The biggest issue I have is when I spend this kind of money, I expect a product to at least come close to performing as advertised, and if not, the company has the decency to address the issues. This set has an amazing picture, but terrible movement. The MJC is supposed to help with the smoothing out of the stuttering and blurriness of the picture (judder) but with the feature on, it creates "ghosting" "artifacting"..something that looks like the predator's cloaking device around all the edges of whatever is moving across the screen. Watch football, and the players look like they're running around the feild with these little vapor looking outlines around them. It makes the picture unwatchable! I'm a bit dissapointed in these "experts" that are omitting this in their reviews (although to date..no "official" CNET review) but you get my point. This issue is so obvious, it's ridicules that nothing is being done about it. And the C7000 had the MJC set to on by default with almost no way of turing it off (game mode only way of turning it off), then sent CNET one with the firmware update disabling the feature so CNET wouldn't see it during their review! That just tells me Samsung knows the issue, but aren't doing anything about it! Turn the feature off you say? Ok, and watch the motion get blurry and it looks like the picture is shaking. This is a crazy issue to have for the money we spend on this set. It's not the entry level one, the PN58C8000 is supposed to be the top of the line Plasma from Samsung.
With this issue resolved, I would have to rate it almost, if not 5 stars, but this is such a major issue, I can't possibly rate this set that high. It makes the picture unwatchable if you're one that likes to see the real smooth movement, which I do, and the MJC was something that was a selling point for me when I purchased it.
Too bad that Samsung won't take care of the issue, with the MJC working correctly with no artifacting or ghosting, this would be a perfect TV, no question about it.
