Pros OUTSTANDING Picture, has the extra punch necessary to replace my Panasonic V10. Beautiful design. Great controls to adjust to your hearts content. 3D works great, my family of six sincs easily. Better than Cinema 3D
Cons Still has noisy buzz eminating from the cabinet, my guess is power supply, 3 years running B, C and D series. When is Samsung going to fix this. Exchanging my first set. This years D series introduces Contrast Fluctuations where dark areas lighten all
Summary For the price this is an Outstanding TV with one of the best pictures out there this year and in the past. Still has some old nagging issues that need to be fixed and some new one's that Samsung needs to address. Don't believe the hype that Panasonic is the best 3D out there. This tv's 3D is excellent for the price and my family of six can sinc perfectly. Samsung has lowered the price of the glasses now which makes entry to 3D more reasonable. IF only the movie prices would come down too. Over all this Samsung D series will unseat my Panasonic V10 as the main tv in our house hold.
Pros -AMAZING picture quality
-Thin and attractive design
-3D seems to work well
-Great picture controls, 10pt white balance, etc.
-Smart Hub is decent but I don't use it at all
Cons -The BUZZING! I have sensitive hearing and on my set the buzzing was so high-pitched that even with the TV at volume 15-20 I could hear the buzzing from 10' away. I'm returning this TV, I just can't stand the distracting hiss emanating from it.
Summary NOTE: The brightness fluctuations that people complain about were pretty distracting, but there is a (possibly warranty-voiding) fix available if you search on AVS Forum and it works perfectly. It fixed my issues and made the only con the buzzing.
I really wanted to love this TV, but unless you listen with headphones or something you will constantly be distracted by the buzzing. Pay a little more and get the Panasonic VT30 or an LED/LCD TV.
Pros Great Picture, Great Price, Great Size (59")
Cons Slight buzz and the Smart part of the TV is not so great
Summary THIS TV IS GREAT!!!!! I've had this TV now for about a month and it is Fantastic, and the word fantastic is not something I just toss around freely. The picture quality after calibration is amazing (I used the settings found on C-Net) and I say for the price I dare you to find a different TV with more options, features and the quality of picture this one has. Going from a LCD to a Plasma I had my reservations, but let me tell you they were all unfounded, this is an amazing TV and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The 3-D is really the only reason I upgraded from my 55" Samsung I purchased a few years ago so I'll start with it:
The 3D is very good, I've not seen any ghosting or crosstalk that was not part of the show/movie I was watching (poor quality = poor image) the only downside to Active over Passive is the darkening of the screen however the screen is full on HD and has a wonderful picture quality to native 3D movies and although Passive is bright and vibrant it can't match the quality you get from Active. 2D to 3D, ok on this I'm now blown away but I am impressed, its one heck of allot better than I thought it was going to be, as a matter of fact I find myself using it more then I assumed (two to three times a week for certain shows like Fringe) but it's just not a "deep" as I was wishing for.
The Smart TV part: Um, well, this is just kind of BLAH! It sure does have allot of stuff to offer but its slow, clunky, and just a big ol' mess of eye sore but it does work so that's good... Right?
The only two reason for the 4 Stars and not five was the slight buzz when the TV is on and the Smart TV not being as amazing as I had been wishing for. The buzz is not a deal killer, you can really only hear it if you are right in front of it with the sound off but it's still there. If the buzz is something that concerns you don't let it, its not that bad unless you watch TV with no sound.
Pros None. The brightness pops are a deal-breaker. Not possible to watch anything without create distraction.
Cons volume buzzing. brightens pops.
Summary I read all the warnings around "brightness pops" but I didn't know what that exactly was. I went and purchased it anyway since CNET had rated top 5 of 2011. How could they not catch this? This isn't a con, it's a deal-breaker. I literally cannot watch TV with this constant flickering. Returning to store.
Pros Nice Picture
Cons Tv suffers from "brightness pops."
Noticeable plasma buzz/humm when tv is at low to mid volume.
Summary I saved up for a great TV. I wish I would have saved a little longer and got a PanasonicThe brightness flashes get more anoying, perhaps they are becomming more frequent or my dissatisfaction is growing. Maybe two stars at best, I paid approx $1700 for this underperforming TV
