+ Nice design, bezel is very thin
+ Blu-ray and DVD's look crisp, clear
+ Remote is small, simple and effectiveCons: - Only 2 HDMI connections
- No PC (VGA) or DVI InputSummary: I bought this Samsung last weekend (29 June 2012) as i've been looking to upgrade my old ancient CRT mammoth for a few years now and I have to say I am absolutely delighted with this model.
I live in a shared house so this is mainly to sit in my bedroom and used to watch movies & tv and to hook up to my PS3.
My main surprise was actually how light the set is, I can literally lift it with one hand. There is some self assembly required for the stand but won't take anything more than 5 minutes with a screwdriver. Some might argue that the stand is a bit 'plasticky' but then I didn't buy it to admire what it's stood on.
Set up and tune-in of the box couldn't be simpler either, after hooking up to the aerial it took literally 5-10 mins for it to tune itself in and like other reviews can confirm it has Freeview HD built in, which is a fantastic plus. I have always been a bit sceptical of the whole HD affair but after purchasing this I am absolutely converted! (I even spent at least 10 minutes switching between the same standard & high def channels to compare - what a nerd)
Blu-ray and DVD's also look crisp, clear and the set is able to handle most darks confidently and bright colours with aplomb. I notice some reviews mentioning dark corners, but if there are - I have yet to find them. Sound quality is good for a flatscreen, perhaps not quite enough bass but works perfectly well for day-to-day viewing and gets loud enough for most ears. Besides, I have a subwoofer that can be easily hooked up and takes care of that job.
The remote is small, simple and effective. It fits nicely in the hand and performs all the usual functions. There is also the function to 'channel skip' whist staying on your current channel and not have to go back to the guide page, which is a function I've always been a fan of.
This Samsung also handles gaming exceptionally well, I hooked it up to my PS3 and the quality is fantastic - again a clear and crisp display with very little lag.
It's very hard to find a downside, but if I was being exceptionally anal then it would be that I have yet to find a 'power off' button - meaning it permanently sits on standby. A very minor flaw that some may find annoying, but can be solved by simply switching the plug off after all.
Overall this Samsung represents exceptional value for money. No it's not a smart TV and doesn't do all the wifi jiggery-pokery but then ask yourself in this age of laptops and smart phones do you really need your TV to do that as well?
I bought this TV to watch tv, play games and watch movies all of which it does with crystal clear perfection for under $500 makes this the cream of the crop and an absolute bargain.
