I have been waiting for years for this television. Ever since I got rid of my projector (weak color, weak contrast, weak brightness and worst of all you must be in the dark like a vampire) I wanted a 65 inch TV as an alternative but Plasma was not an option. I avoided plasma for various reasons, a 65 inch plasma acts as a heater, not an option for me in the summer. Another disadvantage of plasma for me was the picture quality when connected to a PC media center. The picture is noisy, dusty compared to an LCD where as an LCD is smooth and easy on the eye when reading content on the internet such as news or just surfing the web. When Samsung's first LED TV came out a couple of years back I was really amazed and purchased the 55 inch version. The TV was not only paper thin but had an unbelievable quality in contrast and color. It was the first time LCDs matched up to Plasmas because the LED tech allowed for a blacker baseline providing much richer colors and a much higher contrast ratio. The only drawback on these Samsung TVs was the cheap looking frame! A 55 inch TV is not small and with such big piece of plastic hanging on the wall, well it wasn't a beauty. I was always wishing and wishing and wishing for Samsung to finally make a 65 inch version and here we are : ) My dream has been fulfilled! Ever since I saw the prototype at CES I was drooling all over this thing and wished I could have just snatched it right there but doing a robbery heist with a 65 inch panel is a little bit obvious hehe.
After I purchased the TV and saw the box it came in I knew there was no way I am picking up this TV myself. ITS HUGE! Professional delivery was a must. I told them that they should donate the box to homeless peoples as it would provide a fancy looking spacious bedroom attachment to any cardboard box.
Looking at it you would think its really heavy but surprisingly its not that heavy compared to its gigantic dimension. I was really happy that I got the special wall attachment because hanging this baby on the wall like a picture makes this TV shine. It looks like a picture frame thus you can do some nifty little things as display high definition pictures, artwork etc. The user interface is great. It is very easy to understand the menus and settings, everything is so graphical and simple that everyone should be able to adjust its settings.
What about the way it looks when turned off? This is something overlooked over and over again. What people seem to forget is that by including a 65 inch TV (165cm) panel to your living room is that it becomes a piece of furniture! Think about it, when the TV is off its a center piece that will either make your living room look good or worse. I can proudly say that this TV has a silver metal bezel (upgrade from the cheap black plastic bezel from my old Samsung) and it looks SEXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shes hot and everyone that sees her says wow! A reaction that I did not have when I saw my friends 65 Inch Panasonic hanging on his wall.
Outstanding! Even better then my last Samsung. The last Samsung I had looked like crap when the scenes got dark, the light was bleeding out of the corners to the point were I would look at my phone and wait until the scene changed. I am happy to say I did not notice this effect here at all. Some people mentioned it, well I didn't see it so this means that they were able to reduce this effect by upgrading the build quality. Do not NOT buy this TV because of light bleed paranoia. Its not a problem here. The colors are amazing and its unbelievable how bright this TV can get!!!!!!! I was watching this 3D blu-ray called IMAX GALAPOLOS and there were a couple of scenes that made me close my eyes. The scenes were the diver shines the flashlight in your face and the one with the lasers from the sub forced me to close my eyes, no joke. The picture is just awesome, it doesn't get much better than this I am telling you.
3D (Here there are PROS and CONS)
I never thought it was possible to have fish virtually swimming all over my living room but Im glad to say I am still alive to experience this. I figured I would be on my death bed before this happens but the future is hear RIGHT NOW. Amazing. After experiencing this drug like experience I ran out the door and drove right to the video store buying their entire stock of 3D content like a junky looking for his next fix. I bought all kinds of nature crap that I normally would never watch but one would have to experience this to understand. Its not just about stuff popping out in your face, its the fact that you are there with the animals, fishes. You have have the feeling your a few inches away with these creatures because the brain tricks you into it. The 65 Inch dimension also bring this effect to life.
UPDATE: There are no more cons!!!!! This is why I switched the review from 4 stars to 5 stars. The ghosting and the blur effects in fast scenes were not the fault of this TV. I switched out the PS3 with a the 3D Blu-ray player Pioneer BDP-430 (LX-54 in europe) and now these problems are gone!!!!!! The TV is now PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (DO NOT USE THE PS3! When I had it hooked to the PS3 I saw ghosting and motion flicker etc.)
For someone looking to own the best, sexiest, hottest most awesome TV on the market then you have found it right here. Its name is SAMSUNG UN65C8000. Beware! Owing such a TV will make everyone else jealous!
