    "Great purchase" on by drfeelgood824

Pros: This TV will make people, look at it and say "wow!"

    Cons: Stock speakers are satisfactory

Summary: Tv looks gorgeous just standing. Picture quality is top notch. All channels in 108i/720p come in top notch. However, I was disappointed with the sound. The bass adjustment makes the speakers knock. Enabling the surround feature degrades the sound quality further. TV does have the dimming feature, if you do decide to hook it up with a computer. Displays white & black very well. This TV sells the picture. Has plenty of HMDI and digital audio inputs/outputs, always a plus. Simple to use. Remote control is awkwardly large. I purchased a small surround sound unit to compensate.

"good brand name and tv doesn't dissapoint" on by bygremlin

Pros: picture, sound and good universal remote

    Cons: location of inputs

Summary: great picture and good sound. i wish they had 3hdmi inpust instead of 2 but for $799. even before black friday sales was great price. first sharp brand i've had and haven't had any problems with it.i perfer the connections at the rear bottom but these are on the side/rear. i have other lcd tv's( from 27"-52" olevia-phillips) and this is one of the best ones. only 720p but looks great with all channels hd or not. large/long remote but has great function and is universal.

"Great TV for 799....adding the 70 bundle pack for HDMI cable and Wall mount" on by oligo32

Pros: The TV is easy to work with and with the HSMI inputs makes great for an upscaling DVD and a XBox 360. There is the great advantage of the OPC control that helps in chaging light ambients.

Cons: Would of liked that they had added a better firmware in their remote to work with more products. Also a better color control than the predetermined settings for Color Temp.

Summary: The TV is great for the price I got at Circuit City (799.99) with the bundle for the HDMI cable and wall mount (70 bucks more). The controls for display and the way it shows my computer (I now use it as a Computer monitor as well) are great.

I wish they added more components to control with the remote and if you have an upscaling DVD (Philips is ok to use it with) then you can play a good dvx movie on it.

If you have a computer connected to it it will be a great new monitor, also try to have a wireles mouse and keybord to use it with. The advantage is that you can add labels to the different inputs of the TV and helps when you have different sources connected to it.

Like the fact that the TV has a great black level and that if you go into the tips and tricks section of CNET you can get a pretty good "tutorial" on how to make it display better.

One last thing, the TV can handle different settings for the different inputs and this helps if the picture quality from one source is different than the other one.

"7/10 Great Price at $799 on sale, Great with true HD programing, Decent with regular signal." on by cujaber

Pros: Bright Picture, Good Black levels, very nice with HD programing and HDMI DVD

Cons: Has a hard time with non HD programing

Summary: Bought it on sale for $799 so for the money I don't think you can find a better 42 inch LCD. 1080i resolution is great for Cable HD programming. Very nice picture quality all around. However it suffers from some pixilation with low quality signal and with some DVDs.

    "Great Choice" on by RunSilent23

Pros: Great performance for price, Impressive Style

Cons: Unresponsive remote; SD engine not equal to Sony

Summary: After surrendering my Panasonic 42" plasma every time CSI (Vegas, Miami, New York)was on, I purchased this from Office Depot on Black Friday for $899. The styling of this TV is impressive - Sharp makes great looking sets.

Setup is easy but you will probably find yourself changing the default settings. CNET.com, avsforum.com, and lcdbuyingguide.com are great resources for finding optimal settings. Check out the following link for a specific forum on the Sharp 43U series: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=843735.

Once calibrated, HDTV looks awesome. Don't fall into the trap into believing you need a 1080p set to get a great picture. At sizes of 42" and smaller, differences between 1080p and 720p are difficult to discern. You can use the savings of buying this TV to purchase a HD DVD or Blueray player.

Standard definition (SD)on the LC-42D43U is a mixed bag and this one area that Sharp is not quite equal to Sony. But if you are new to HDTV, prepare yourself for some SDTV disappointment even if you own a Sony, Samsung, Sharp or Vizio. Digital channels tend to look better than analog. You'll find yourself wanting to upgrade your service if you currently have analog cable.

Other minor quibbles include the remote. The channel and volume buttons are small and at times not very responsive.

All in all, I am very happy with the LC-42D43U. It's a great value.
