Pros As a first time flat screen owner, the easy stand set up, plug in and ready to watch were nice.Good off angle veiwing as well as straight on. 5 HDMI inputs, and the 120Hz are a plus.
Cons This is all that kept it from a 5 star review.......the remote control....the number buttons and the channels up/down were EXTREMELY sensitive, close to useless actually. If you have a cable remote, you can (and will) program it to use with this TV.
Summary If you have a remote control from your HD provider (cable etc.), you should buy this tv, otherwise, the remote might be a deal breaker (see cons).Hopefully I got a defective remote and this is not an issue with all of them. The value at about $1400 is very good, sharp picture and ease of set up are all great.
Pros Styling - small bezel and clean looks
Performance - love the 120 hz on movies/action
White Balance control - for someone who like to fiddle this is great
Connectivity - 5 HDMI's! Not sure I will ever use them all!
Cons Picture contrast not as good as the Samsung 600 series, but I like the matt screen.
Remote control is a little old-fashioned, and I expect the small door at the bottom that "hides" the picture mode will not be there a year from now....
Summary I have a 19 inch sharp which I really liked, and my purchase came down to 3 screens..
Sharp 46D85U, Sony 46W4100, and the Toshiba Regza 545u.
In the end, price drove my purchase, although in hindsight I might have preferred the Sony a little more since it has a slightly better contrast ratio... However, picked this up for about $1,500 with a little dealing at Future Shop (got the TV, Rogers PVR, a Sony Blu Ray, and 2 top high speed HDMI cables, and 3 BluRay movies with taxes etc for $2,500 including extended warranties on all (yes I know - these are usually a waste of money but in the end only cost about $160.....)
Blue Ray picture is fabulous, and now will move forward with HD channels.
In the end, most TV's will be great once you get them home and set up - its really hard to tell the differences for most of us!
Pros If you want a mid range model with 120Hz you won't go wrong with this choice. Great image, great sound, easy navigation and instructions, easy setup
Cons nothing so far
Summary Not sure what the cnet reviewers were watching but it could not have been this screen. After much soul searching and reading all the users reviews here, we had originally settled on the Samsung 550 but lo and behold, once we purchased it and asked the store to open it to ensure we got the S panel as opposed to an A or a C, we discovered that all their stock was A... Ironically all the ones displayed in the store were S panels. We were not willing to take the chance and come home with an A panel so we went to our second choice, the Sharp 650. We love the image. It is fantastic and incredibly smooth and even though sound quality was not a primary consideration we find it quite good. Easy to set up too - took us all of 15 minutes from box to running a DVD and PS3 and both game and movie looked stunning. Very happy with our purchase and definitely worth the step up in price. No banding whatsoever (we were quite wary of that based on earlier Sharp models issues).
Also, image is crystal clear when off-angle (we have an L shaped set up and we see no image quality loss when viewed from a sharp angle).
Pros picture when works
Cons not reliable
I purchased the LC-46D82U in Oct 2007 with 3-yr extended warranty. Only two people watch the television a few nights a week and weekends. We recently turned it on, but it would not power-up. Sharp customer support could not fix over the phone. This will require service to fix.
Essentially the TV is dead in less than 4 yrs of average use!
I would not recommend purchasing a television from SHARP.
Pros Picutre was clear; no ghosting or bluring with high speed action;
Remote control easy to figure out and use;
Cable hookups and setup very easy!
Cons Manual should be clearer as to advanced colour temperature settings
Summary Although I have only had the TV a few days, my wife and I have enjoyed high speed action movies and video games on it. We did not notice any blurring and the blacks were very dark and impressive. Hooking up our game console and using it was exciting. There were no delays - either video or sound, and the sharp (no pun intended - well okay maybe a little) details were incredible. It may not be considered a "Top of the Line" model, but for the average home entertainment system, I give it 5/5 and am very happy with this purchase.
