"Outstanding when adjusted properly" on by FJR speedster

Pros: superb clear picture, clean design

Cons: lack of convenient front or side inputs for cameras, games

Summary: This set was delivered on Nov 7, having been delivered to the dealer by Sharp Canada only days before so it is a recent build. I am a Sony nut with two Bravias, an HC3 HD Camcorder and much more but could not face the price of the big Sony. The factory settings on the Sharp are terrible with oversaturated colour and a cold blue tint affecting white objects on the screen like white shirts, documents etc, Fortunately with some considerable adjustment I warmed it up, adjusted the colour, contrast etc and it was every bit as good as my Sony. I saw no signs on any input, DVD, HDMI etc of the reported colour bands - if this changes I will let you know. This is a good buy not to be overlooked - best buy today for a 52" LCD.

"This TV has defects" on by fxstshog

    Pros: Big, Attractive look

Cons: Has significant banding issues, Quality Control, Red Push

Summary: I own this TV. Unfortunately, Sharp has a serious QA issue with this line and my set has several vertical bands that are present when viewing DVDs. These are most noticeable in dark scenes. My understanding is this issue is very widespread with the d62 series. It is almost impossible ot see the banding in the showroom, so you role the dice with this one. I can not recommend this TV to anyone. Note: The CNET review also detected the banding issue.

"Superb TV with an incredible picture." on by Cmdr21

Pros: Great Color and Resolution, almost 3D at times

Cons: Could have more accessible inputs on front or side.

Summary: I purchased this Flat Panel on line and less than two days later it was delivered. Observations:
    1. Great Packing, easy unpacking.
    2. Easy installation on a wall bracket.
    3. Well laid out connections, however a more accessible side connection for a game or Video camera would have been nice.
    4. Easily understandable Operators Manual.
    5. Incredible picture out of the box with no adjustments at all. No sign of the banding problem talked about, at least none after one week.
    6. User friendly menu very intuitive.
    7. The viewing angle provided by the company is correct, but like all LCD's brightness is somewhat diminished at angles over plus or minus 45 degrees off of center.
    8. In my opinion the picture quality is equal to greater than the Sony Bravia 46 1080p panel, and the Sharp is 6 inches bigger. Who said size dosen't matter.
    9. I paid less than 3 grand for this unit and it just rocks. I am using it in a monitor mode with Comcast HD TV. Don't even think of taking it away from me.

The more I watch this LCD TV the more impressed I am with it. I have not found any of the banding problems discussed on various sites. The picture is clear, bright and crisp. HD viewing is just outstanding.
    Updated
After watching several programs I kept seeing what I assumed to be ghosts, but the more I watched I realized that the ghost were in fact vertical Bands on the Screen. I managed to get a totally gray screen and observed at least six vertical bands and many horizontal bands. I have reported this to Sharp who informed me they were aware of the problem, assigned me a case number and assured me that they would notify me when a fix was available. Very professional and concerned. I still fell that the quality of the picture is outstanding but the banding problem should be fixed. Would I return the set, No. I can honestly say it is the best picture I have ever seen on a LCD flat panel and the banding can be ignored, if you even know it is there.

"What a COLOSSAL disappointment!" on by bgetchel

Pros: It's big. The promise of 1080p. Great paper specs.

Cons: The one thing that counts -- the PICTURE! Banding is ATROCIOUS!

Summary: I purchased a Sony 46" Bravia 1080p LCD HDTV the day after Thanksgiving -- I loved it! The LC-52D62U wasn't available in any store at that time, and the CNET review of the 46" variant scared me toward the Sony (which was Editor's Choice). I figured the banding issue just HAD to be blown out of proportion and that it was "cured" with the arrival of Sharp's new 52" variant.

    It wasn't.

If anything, the banding appear to be WORSE than reports had led me to believe! I just picked it up earlier today, and almost immediately the egregious banding -- both horizontal and vertical -- became evident. It's not just noticeable on the random dark scene, it's actually quite obtrusive even in well-lit scenes. Color is more washed out that the Sony as well. It's just not as "rich" and contrasty. Saturation is mediocre at best.

This unit won't even last 24 hours in my house. And yes, I've tried every setting adjustment, including the use of SpyderTV to calibrate the display.

Sharp has serious, SERIOUS QC issues here. I thought I could gain six inches and better specs for the same price by trading my Sony Bravia in, but I came out a loser. This TV/Monitor is a D-O-G!

This was my first, and last, Sharp product I've purchased. For $3,500 these things should work at least satisfactorily, if not stupendously.

    What a bust.

"Don't be put off by other bad reviews - this just might be the perfect TV" on by csoder

Pros: Crystal clear picture, extremely easy to set up, beautiful black cabinet, small footprint for such a large TV, remarkably light and easy to manage

Cons: None that I can see so far

Summary: I was almost put off of this TV based on some of the reviews I had seen where people complained about seeing bands across the screen. I was looking to replace a four year old Panasonic 42" EDTV and wanted to get the most up-to-date technology so I would get the most out of the new HD DVD formats (once the dust settles and it is clear which one will prevail).
I was drawn to this set based on the LCD display technology (which is supposed to be clearer and less prone to burn-in issues that plasma), full 1080p capability, and price. I spent a lot of time at Circuit City, Best Buy, Tweeter, and others watching various sets side-by-side and every time concluded that only the Sony Bravia LCD sets were as clear, rich and bright. I know that some people say that DLP has the best picture, but every time I compared them side-by-side, they looked washed out and less crisp. All of the 720p plasmas just didn't look quite as clear either (although the color saturation of plasma is hard to beat), and the only 1080 plasma I could find (the Pioneer Elite) was thousands of dollars more. I almost decided to spend the $1500-$2000 more that the Sony would have cost, but finally just decided to go with my gut and try the Sharp. I have to say, I could not be more pleased. The TV looks great in my den and the picture is truly astounding. I had heard that the picture on regular non-HD channels wasn't that clear on HD sets, including this one. However, on the Sharp they are clearer than they were on the Panasonic (contrary to the general wisdom that EDTVs handle regular programming better). DVDs are stunning (we watched Finding Nemo last night and the clarity and color richness was unbelievable). I have digital cable and the HD broadcasts obviously look great, as well. Lastly, you just have to see what games on the X-Box look like on this. All of this and I still haven't actually taken full advantage of the 1080p capability. All I can say is that you should not assume that you will have a bad experience with this TV, as others say they have. My experience has been great. To me, this is the best value for the money out there if you want full HD capability.
