"This TV has defects"
Pros: Big, Attractive look
Cons: Has significant banding issues, Quality Control, Red Push
Summary: I own this TV. Unfortunately, Sharp has a serious QA issue with this line and my set has several vertical bands that are present when viewing DVDs. These are most noticeable in dark scenes. My understanding is this issue is very widespread with the d62 series. It is almost impossible ot see the banding in the showroom, so you role the dice with this one. I can not recommend this TV to anyone. Note: The CNET review also detected the banding issue.

I just bought the LC-52D62U and overall I'm very pleased with the picture. Very fast pixel response rate, great shadow detail, nice color rendering, excellent sharpness (that's native 1080 for you!), very good angle of view.
What I didn't know about until I read the CNET reviews was supposed banding problems. Well, folks, I didn't see it in the showroom, but there are very faint, narrow horizontal bands towards the center of the screen.
Additionally, there's some uneven illumination vertically that appears as large bands, spaced apart about 1/5th of the screen. This is hard to see except when the camera pans in certain shots.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed. I should have done my homework better. I'll always see the defects now, even how subtle as they are.
To be fair, I don't think most people would notice these defects, unless they were pointed out to them, but still, it's unfortunate that they exist in an otherwise beautiful picture.
