"Hi Def Mode & 5 HDMI ports a Plus Stand def. NEEDS HELP"
Pros: The fact that theres 5 HDMI inputs on this model is a big plus. theres also a USB port for Firmware updates/Service port. i can only hope & wait that Sharp addresses this standard def issue.
Cons: Standard Definition mode in a word SUCKS !!! this is my 1st. HDTV and the standard def is worst than my old RCA (1992) 52 rear projection big screen TV. thats unfortunate for sharp and its 1st foray into a energy saver model of a HI-DEF LCD 52 Set.
Summary: I only wish I waited just a little while longer for a floor model to be in the stores for a side by side comparison. I'm not writing Sharp off just yet because i think they can tweak this issue with firmware. so if you are reading this sharp try and get one out A.S.A.P otherwise you will see more user post just like this one.

Hal, are you saying not to buy this set? I am considering buy one, as my mother has a smaller set and likes it. I wonder, has the SD issues been worked out yet?
I see similar sets at best buy for over 2000 buck, so, is it still work it @ 1/2 that price?
thanks, -
Hal,
standard def is usually much worse on hdtv's--this isnt just a brand-specific issue. there's a # of ways to help that though.. are you using the black lines on the side for non-hd content? if so, the picture should be fine, if not, the hdtv sets have to stretch what would normally be in the smaller area, over the larger area(kool-aid effect)... other ways include adjusting your aspec ratio, manually tweeking the settings (contrast, sharpness, etc...)
