"isolated case???"
Pros: excellent sound, price dropping , aesthetically pleasing, light
Cons: possible lemon
Summary: I say i hope mine is an isolated case because i saw this TV in the store and i was sold. that being said, mine didn't work right out of the box. Picture was blurry and pixelated from all sources. Originally i thought there may be something wrong with my HDTV cable box, but after bypassing the box, testing with DVD only, the problem still existed. Apparently there is something wrong with the signal processor. So far, Sharp customer service has been great. they were available on Sunday night and quickly referred my case to an area repair shop who will make a housecall. They claim 9/10 problems like this are fixed on the spot and if not they will replace the TV. It's just a shame that i got a lemon and the retailer completely washed their hands of the whole thing...and it hadn't even been 48 hours!!Updated
well here it is 2 weeks after my TV was picked up for repair and i still don't have it back. The technicians who picked up the TV were pretty rude and insisted nothing was wrong with the picture quality. Well, last i checked the customer was right, the picture looked worse than my old 27" tube TV. As a matter of fact, the only way i could convince these idiots was to drag that old TV out and reconnect it so they could see. Only then did they believe me. So now I'm playing the waiting game and I keep getting different dates of completion every time i call them (initially they told me 5 days MAX) So now i am basically going directly to Sharp with my ultimatum : either they get these yahoos to finish up the job, or SHarp will be sending me a new replacement TV. Just like some reviewers said about SHarp customer service, they're courteous and unlike some others my phone wait wasn't that long (on a sunday night no less), but their "authorized" repair dealerships are suspect at best. VERY slow and very unprofessional....Updated
so i've had my TV back for over a month now and I am just learning to live with it each day. I still stand by the fact that there was a problem when i first received this TV, but the more and more i've read and researched i've discovered that compressed SD signals to the these HDTVs pretty much sucks and some cable companies are worse than others. I'm Time Warner NYC and well, they're bad to begin with so to me it was to be expected that their compressed signals would also be some of the worst. Like dublinjohn said, the picture from HDTV broacasts is amazing though. I'll be happy when TWC starts offering more HDTV channels.

I have this exact TV sitting in my den waiting for a UPS pick up. I bought this TV in mid July. It quit working 6 weeks later. No reason..just no picture, no sound.
Nothing I did or the check that the retailer had me to do helped at all.
I contacted Sharp. It took my son in law calling them (a man, you know) for them to agree that something was indeed wrong.
They told me they would have the nearest service center to contact me. No contact after a week. Called Sharp back. They said that service center couldn't do anything for another month. I told them this was unacceptable. I had only had the TV for 6 weeks and I had paid a lot of money for it!
I never got anymore response from them. The service center was called. They said they did not do in house service. At least a month before they could give me a pick up date.
Needless to say I was very unhappy. I was lucky, because the retailer was extremely nice and accommodating. Called for a UPS pick up tag and they will refund my money.
My advice....never, never, never, never, buy a Sharp! The customer service isn't worth a dime. My last TV (Panasonic) lasted us for over 15 years. Great picture still until the lightening ran in on it and kaplooey...everything went!
No Sharps ever for me! -
Hi folks!
I feel myself lucky so far.
Out of the box -works perfect ,say, 5-6 mo in a row -
I have the Sharp 26" model...excellent picture quality. I find cable companys ( Cox & CableOne) cannot match Dish or Direct TV for picture quality.

It's interesting to note the varied opinions on this particular LCD however, being currently involved in"trying" to make the right choice I read Consumer Reports ratings on a number of Sharp LCDs and except for two, a 45 inch and a 26 inch ( two years old ), the reports were less than stellar.
My point, give Consumer Reports a try when making your next purchase, at the very least you can be assured that their comments are theirs and not some "ringers". Lemons, unfortunately, are a fact of life just as are the after sales warranty jerks that don't seem to care whose reputation is at stake.
I've vented enough but one last observation, I've emailed Sharp (customer care) three times over the past two weeks and have yet to receive a response... that kind of tells me how much interest they have in a potential buyer or a buyer that needs help.
Good Luck to you. -
Was wondering if you had tried using the cablecard option that TWC in NYC offers?
