Manufacturer description

The elegant design of the LC-37D6U easily enhances the decor of any family room, living room or den. The LC-37D6U features a sleek titanium cabinet with black sides and detachable speakers. With a true 16:9 aspect ratio, HDTV resolution of 1366 x 768, Sharp's Emmy award-winning LCD technology and breathtaking color purity, it is a next-generation TV to carry you into the high-definition future. The LC-37D6U utilizes Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View/Black TFT Panel which provides high brightness (450 cd/m2), 800:1 contrast ratio, and wide viewing angles (170º x 170º). The LC-37D6U is Digital Cable Ready and includes a CableCARD slot. This means you can "Plug and Play" with a CableCARD from your HDTV-capable Cable-TV system provider, without requiring a separate cable set-top box. Other features that distinguish the LC-37D6U: HDMI and 2 HD component video inputs as well as an enhanced version of Sharp's proprietary Quick Shoot video circuit, which enables a fast response time of less then 12 ms. In addition, the included table stand easily removes for wall mounting applications.

Great TV Worth The Money

Pros: Awesome picture, Top Quality TV

Cons: Slow channel changes

Review: This TV has a great HD picture, and does amazingly well with analog signals. Can take up to two seconds to change to another channel...and this can be annoying, but the breathtaking picture makes up for any shortcomings. I suggest a good wall mount ($60 - looks totally cool mounted on wall), and the samsung upconverting dvd player ($100)which upconverts dvd picture to 1080i (the aquos's best resolution). Plasma TV's get thrown in the trash when they dim in several years. With the Aquos, you just replace a 150$ bulb and you are as good as new. Also doesn't put off the heat plasma tvs do, and is not subject to screen burn in like plasma tvs. The Aquos line makes the plasma tv obsolete as far as I am concerned.

Good picture quality, bad with input variety

Pros: In regards to picture quality, one of the best in its class..

Cons: Severely lacking in the inputs included, extremely difficult and potentially expensive to connect a PC.

Review: Being the most expensive 37" Sharp Aquos, the picture quality of the LC 37D6U/37D4U surpasses all other 37" LCD TVs in its class, even Sharp's own LC 37D7U/37D5U. It also has a lower response time than the 37D7U/37D5U. However, being a leader in LCD technology, you would think Sharp would include suitable inputs to more easily connect a computer.

The 37D6U/37D4U has even less inputs than the 37D7U/37D5U, lacking DVI and firewire. None of the Sharps have a VGA input, making it a little harder to connect a PC. At least the 37D7U/37D5U has a DVI input. The only suitable ways to connect a PC to the 37D6U/37D4U is with an expensive VGA to component transcoder, or if your computer has a DVI output, using a DVI to HDMI cable.

Picture quality using analog cable is, as to be expected with LCD TVs, not great, but acceptable. DVDs, PS2, and Xbox games in 480p look spectacular. I imagine that HDTV channels would look great as well.

Being more educated now after doing so much research, if I had to do it over I would bypass the Sharp Aquos line and instead get an LCD TV that has a VGA input to easily connect a PC. If connecting a PC does not matter to you and picture quality comes first, the LC 37D6U is a good TV to get.
