"Great deal on a name brand 1080p"
Pros: Great HD picture quality, two HDMI inputs, automatic backlight adjustment, 1080p resolution and sleek black piano design.
Cons: The menu access doesn't have all the same capabilities that the remote does..., can only access AV and View modes with the remote.
Summary: I would say this TV is a solid buy at 2K. For a 42 inch 1080p under 3K is a good deal and this is a steal at 2K. It has some nifty features like the automatic back-light adjustments that will change the screen depending on the light in the room. Seems to have decent speakers when set to "virtual dolby surround." The fact it has two HDMI inputs is great; this will allow you to connect both an HD cable box and DVD player at the same time. I did notice that HDMI connections produce much better color on this TV as well.
Overall I'd say I'm pleased with the performance.

I've had my eye on this unit before it's release because of it's relatively low price and Sharps reputation; however, I'm still waiting on some reviews to help evaluate the performance. CNet has reviewed the 46" version and observed banding (along with other issues) - they continue to state the 42" version is not equal in its specs (e.g., 1200:1 contrast ratio); so, I'm a little hesitant right now. There is a large selection with a large price variance for 40"-42" LCD TVs and I'm still searching for the right combination. Additionally, I'm curious about purchasing on-line (experiences, return policies). I know it varies greatly between distributors, but the prices are right! Thanks aquayonex for your opinion. (Note: This will be my first LCD TV buying experience).
