"Phenomenal TV...this review does not do it justice!" on by ToreroGuySD
Pros: The picture quality is simply outstanding, once the tv has been properly calibrated. The black levels are great and the color accuracy is impeccable. Viewing angle is far superior to most other LCD tv's. Feature set is good.
Cons: My only complaint is that this tv lacks wi-fi connectivity (there is an ethernet port, however) to stream Netflix, etc. Also, you will have to invest some time to calibrate this tv to get the best possible picture...but the result is worth it!
Summary: As a long time cnet lurker, I have never seen fit to offer my $0.02. But after reading this hatchet job of a review, I feel compelled to comment on this TV. As stated above, this review sells this tv short. Simply look at the UK cnet review for the comparable model or to the AVS Forum. I originally considered the Samsung UNB6000 when I accidentally stumbled upon the Sharp LED. I was sold on the Samsung for the longest time, but was intrigued by the Sharp. Even though this TV lacks local dimming, I found the PQ to be superior to the Samsung because the full LED backlight provided full screen uniformity (better blacks, etc), which cannot be said for the side-lit Samsung. I compared the two tv's side by side and was more impressed with the Sharp, which surprised me since I originally intended on purchasing the Samsung. All said, this review has to be taken with a grain of salt, as it simply does not do the tv justice (I can only conclude that the professional cnet reviewer did not properly calibrate this tv...poke around the AVS Forum for similar conclusions).
Hi Val:
Updated on Oct 26, 2009
If you go to www.avsforum.com and search for "le70un" you should find the thread that mentions a variety of different calibrations and settings. I used the ones proposed by reviewer Chad and then modified them as necessary for my room and lighting conditions. -
"Energy Efficient and GREAT picture" on by philmiami
Pros: Low power consumption and excellent picture. Connects to Aquosnet thru Ethernet hookup. Many HDMI inputs.
Cons: No S-video connection. Does not 'swivel' on base.
Summary: I am happy I bought this. I wanted LED back light because it does not generate any noticeable heat like you would find with say a plasma. The blacks are black and picture looks so much better than with a regular LCD. All I can say is if you want to compare, go to a store and one that has lighting all around. Some stores only show their TV's in a dark lit area. I don't live in a cave. And the reflective surface of the display really has no bearing on my viewing habits as even in the sunlight thru the window, I can not tell. I like it is power efficient and does not eat up 2 or 3 hundred watts to be on. Also has many HDMI inputs so my blu-ray, cable box and Wii (on RCA input) all function great. I use the Aquosnet thru the ethernet jack but that is no like surfing the net. Just basic widget stuff. Does not stream Netflix or anything like that (my Sony BDP-460 blu-ray does that). Just a good unit for the price.

"Excellent TV. Superb black levels, but read my review.." on by makeasownd
Pros: Because of the Led backlighting, this tv produces great black levels, and give the color a realistic pop. Extensive picture adjustments, unlike previous models. Next to none in energy efficiency. Simple design, no touch of color.
Cons: Does not have local dimming. Does not swivel. Can not adjust black level other then active contrast.
Summary: Do not take every review you read at it's word. I normally agree with cnets tv reviews and was turned off to this tv by this review. I went into the store and played with a lot of tv's to try and get the best picture for the price. I found myself in front of this tv the Sharp LC-40LE700UN. The store calibration was horrific so i asked for a remote to see if I could find a picture that I liked. First thing I noticed while going through the adjustments was that there were a lot more then I expected. As soon as I took it off of its Dynamic mode and set it to standard I had a much better template to play with the settings. When I was all done with my tweaking I came to the conclusion that although it did not come with local dimming the tv produced excellent black levels. Much more realistic then typical LCD tv's. The color was excellent as well mainly because of its extensive color adjustments.
Bottom line: This Tv produces an excellent picture and has extensive calibration settings. BUT, you should find a store where you can go in and tweak with the tv's for yourself. Play around and buy the tv that you feel looks the best. -
"Cnet needs to try again" on by brickcues
Pros: Clear Picture with sharp defined edges, good color, and bright picture.
Cons: Screen reflects, not matte finish.
Summary: I looked at all the 46 inch TV's for 2 days, just the LCD and LED, no plasma. I had a $1200 budget and was just looking at LCD and checking reviews before I made a decision. On the second day iI had almost made up my mind on a Sony when a salesman pointed me at the Sharp. I started looking at the picture and comparing it to others. As I was looking I noticed the Picture was just alittle sharper with more detail than the others. Well, needless to say I blew my budget but did talk the price down another hundred. Got the TV home and set up, checked the reviews at CNET and at first thought I had blown it. Maybe I should have bought another TV. I thought about taking it back and getting something else. Today I decided to go back to another store and shop around again. After looking for awhile at everything else and then comparing them to the Sharp I can say what everyone else who has written a review has said. CNET blew the pooch on this one !!!

"SHARP LED Best Value...CNET asleep at the wheel" on by itsdreed
Pros: Blacks - very Black
Full backlit LEDs vs. the edge lighting on the Samsung makes it far superior
Picture quality is superb
Overall, I highly recommend this tv
Bottom line----its the best price too!Cons: None yet......
Summary: I am amazes at the CNET's low review? I was all about Samsung until I saw this LED. Went home to read the reviews on this set on CNET and learned that CNET hadnt even rated the unit yet. I visited AVS Forum and read about the users reviews of the Samsung B6000, B7000. The Samsung threads were full of complains about clouding, uneven screen. Had the TV since 8/1/09 and am very happy I made this purchase.
