"Good but not great"
on by CommuterPros Great menus; good sound
Cons Pic not as sharp as my old, inexpensive Panasonic!
Summary Price-shopped and admittedly did not want to spend big $$$. Think I did as good as I could for under $600, but am disappointed with the lack of sharpness in the pic. Also, small print is unreadable on the screen (i.e., my Comcast Guide's description of lineup, small print portion of ads in unreadable). Still pondering whether to keep or bring back--purchased this two days ago--just don't know what other choices I would have for priice.

"seemed great until it FAILED right at warranty deadline"
on by archer333Pros seemed great at first until electronics started to FAIL.
Customer service is annoying, slow, ineffectual, unhelpful, waste of time.Cons Electronics failed. For example, my IR port failed. I took in for repair to their local "authorized repair", who took 4 WEEKS to work on the problem- now SOME remote commands but not channels. Even manual channel changes partially responsive.
Summary Sony used to be a name worthy of trust and esteem. Now they peddle junk. Next time I will go with Samsung or Panasonic. I will never buy another electronic from Sony again. This is not my first bad experience.

"Great picture quality for the money."
on by jazzyj140Pros Picture quality better than expected. Analog picture quality shows that Sony has done a wonderful job. USB for updates. Speakers sound decent for a bedroom. Excellent as a computer monitor. Ample connections for my needs.
Cons No internet capability. I did not like the start up chime but Sony issued an update that allowed the option to turn this off. Information screen when TV turns on is annoying. It covers up the browser buttons for several seconds. Very minor.
Summary Bought this TV for my bedroom. I ended up using it as my main computer screen in additon to watching oodles of movies and tv. Now am spending way too much time in front of it. Great TV/Monitor for the money. Currently own a 32 inch 720p Syntax LCD and a Sharp 46 inch 1080p LC-46d64u. The Sony picture quality, to the eye, is much better than the Sharp (I did not do any color calibration on any of the LCD's). Sony handles the analogue channels much better than the Sharp model I have now. No back-light issues like the Sharp. Sharp had excellent after sale service, sad I needed to use it. They came to my home and did the work on the spot. I have not had any experience with Sony after sale service other than a failed PS3. (not happy about the PS3 service). Would be nice if it had LED back-light but definitely does well. I would certainly consider purchasing a larger screen from the ex500 line. I never have high expectations from television speakers but the speakers, even though they lack bass, are adequate for movie watching in the bedroom. Other LCD are 60hz, motion is noticeably smoother on the Sony @ 120hz
