"Attractive 5.1ch Audio for smaller living room or bedroom"
Pros: adopt 2nd generation BRAVIA Engine ; the most simple solution for surround sound
Cons: Non S-LCD panel and without WCG-CCFL or 10bit processing
Summary: Sony recently made some changes to its LCD TV model names in US market. In 2008, excluding the XBR series, the names of all its new lineups in the North America market now end with the numbers 4000/4100 (for example V4100) instead of the previous 3000. In addition, in 2Q08, it added the N, M, and L series for its below 40" HD segment. In the past, Sony did not offer 37" models in North America. This has changed, due to a shift in Sony's panel procurement strategy. The 3 new series all belong to the entry-level segment, as none of them support Full HD. However, a key highlight of the N4000 focuses on the integrated 5.1 channel audio.
The N4000 covers the 32" and 37" sizes with the most impressive 5.1ch feature. TVs normally only have two speakers positioned to the sides or bottom, thus offering a two channel audio. Yet, since the advent of the 5.1 channel during the DVD era, the technology has proved popular among consumers. In the past, the advanced surround sound required consumers to buy an extra stereo system with at least 6 speakers. The N4000 allows consumers to conveniently skip this process, along with freeing up additional space. For living rooms that can only accommodate a 32" or 37", this feature makes the N4000 a very practical TV.
In addition for households with smaller living rooms, the N4000 is also a suitable choice for people who want to upgrade their bedroom TV. In Feb09, the US will stop all analogue TV broadcasting and switch to the 5.1 channel supportable ATSC digital system. As the bedroom is usually not big, the limited space makes it difficult to add additional surround sound equipment. The N4000 offers consumers a viable solution for enjoying 5.1 channel audio in the bedroom.
The N4000 is equipped with Sony's second generation BRAVIA Engine 2 (BE2). In line with its other new 2008 models, it also comes with the Advanced Contrast Enhancer circuit (ACE) feature, allowing the dynamic contrast ratio to reach 9500:1. Finally, the 37" and 32" is priced respectively at $1,399 and $899, which is $200 more than other BE2 engine-equipped models.
