"life without cable" on by gramnation

Pros: Sony Internet Video supports Netflix
    Good digital tuner
    DTV TV Guide

Cons: DTV Clock goes out of whack
Some Sony Internet Video channels truly suck
Need a second computer monitor to register for netflix

Summary: The Internet Video has slightly better picture quality and much better usability than Mac mini plugged into computer input. For example via Netflix interface I can use remote control to select, pause, rewind, fwd programs as though using on-demand cable, which is sweet. iTunes in TV mode also looks awesome through the computer input.

The digital tuner was picking up channels from Ft. Hood and I live in Austin, TX.

So without cable I can choose from Sony Internet Video, General Video from the Mac, and all of the free DTV channels I'm getting with the crazy good reception. The DTV also comes with a TV guide. Screw paying $50 for cable.

Drawbacks are that the DTV clock goes out of whack, rendering the TV guide useless, maybe because I'm cutting off power at the wall after turning off TV, but why should the TV consume power while off? Another weird drawback happens when you try to activate Netflix on the set. I had already hooked up mac mini to computer input, so I wanted to enter the security code I read off the TV screen online via my computer. Ironically, when you switch to computer video input, the security code generated by the TV goes defunct. The only way I could register was to remain on the Internet TV screen showing the code while entering that code on a separate laptop computer. Hard to say what I'd have done if this TV was my only computer monitor.

Some of the Internet Video programming is terrible. I liked Netflix, YouTube, and On Networks (Play Value) but the other channels suck. No Sony, I don't really want to watch a live performance by Third Eye Blind, Creed, or ChickenFoot.

"Just about what I expected" on by StevefromDanville

Pros: Great picture. No problems with viewing angle or glare. Easy to hook up.

Cons: Sound is tinny. Stand does not swivel.

Summary: I got the 40 inch screen for my bedroom and that seems to be the right size. It doesn't overwhelm or dominate the decor. I'm using the speakers that are built into the unit, even though Best Buy included a home theater Blu-Ray set-up. I was hoping the built-in speakers would sound better but they are average, at best. I spent a lot of time looking at different HDTVs and researching the specs. Quite frankly, the picture in 85% of the sets are about the same: very good. About the same as the 5 year old Samsung 1080p that sits in my den. The only one that really stood out as exceptional was the new Samsung LED 7000 series, but it was outside my budget. The Sony is hooked up to a new Comcast DVR-HD box and it's fine. I connected the set to the CAT5 cable but haven't used any of the features or even gone on-line. I'm happy with the unit and would recommend it to anyone. I never considered any brand other than Sony or Samsung for one reason only: these are the brands I trust.

"Sold a Lemon by the Sony Store in Cherry Creek, Denver" on by SoldaLemon

    Pros: None so far.

Cons: It has a big, red, vertical, 2.25" wide stripe running all down the middle of the screen.

Summary: I'm sure this is probably a good TV if you get a working model. I did not. The TV I purchased October 23, 2009 from the Sony Store in Cherry Creek, Denver, CO is a lemon. It took two hours of my time on a Friday night with Comcast and Sony technical support to confirm this. The Sony Store has refused to bring me a working model and haul-off the broken one they sold me. So, I'm now spending my Saturday repackaging the TV, driving the 1.5 hours back to Denver and returning the TV, Home Theatre System and accessories I purchased yesterday. I'll be spending my Sunday shopping Samsung at BestBuy.

"RIPPED OFF BY SONY AT THE CHERRY CREEK MALL DENVER CO" on by KlausinDenver

Pros: There are no more pros in my book

    Cons: VERY POOR MANAGER ATTITUDE

Summary: RIPPED OFF BY SONY AT THE CHERRY CREEK MALL DENVER CO
On 11-24-11 I went to the Sony store at the Cherry Creek mall in anticipation to purchase a new VAIO
Notebook computer similar to the one I had purchased a few years back from the same store.
( I found this computer to be great for travel because of the light weight.)
After about a 10 minute wait (with which I had no problem) I received the attention of a salesman. I told him what I wanted and within minutes I left happily with a new Vaio Notebook Z2 which I was told was the upgraded faster & better version of my old computer . I proceeded to go with my daughter to the Apple store for her purchase of the new I Phone. When we arrived at the Apple store, I told my daughter that the box seemed heavy and wondered if I received the right computer. She suggested that I open the box to make sure since we were still at the mall . After I removed a piece of 2x4 inch tape which held the box closed, I found the box to contain the computer with a external dvd drive (power media dock, which seemed to weigh more then the computer itself) ) I closed the box and immediately took it back to the store. I proceeded to the sales counter and told the person behind the counter that I just made this purchase, but it was not exactly what I was looking for. I explained that my old computer has a build in cd drive and that the new computer did not have the same feature. I also mentioned that the new version with the external cd drive makes the overall product altogether heavy and inconvenient for my travels. The sales person seemed quite irate toward my response and told me I can just find something else or be charged a 15% restocking fee since I had opened the box. I replied that I really don't want to deal with him because of his attitude and asked to see the manager. He told me that he was the manager and gave me the name of John Neuner. I told him that I think he needs a class in customer relations and he responded with "I am calling security". I shook my head in disbelief and said this is totally wrong, do what you need to do just give me a refund. He left and after 15 minutes of waiting ( he never came back & security never came) another employee refunded me $1,989.13 of the initial total purchase price of $2,289.12

I got ripped off for $300 and all within 1 hour (Based on time stamped purchase & refund receipt)

I went back to the Apple store to meet my daughter and ended up buying an Apple computer.

    SONY, YOU LOST A CUSTOMER!

"Great Picture, Sound and overall Experience" on by twentyniner

Pros: Excellent Picture. Great sound. Lots of features; Internet video, widgets for weather/twitter/flickr and more, lots of settings for managing how the tv works. Overall just a beautiful set with the then smoke glass bezel.

    Cons: None at this time.

Summary: I just bought this tv for $889 at Best Buy and it is far better than any other tv at that price range that I looked at from Sharp, LG, Samsung and others.
