  • "Excellent for movies & TV, not as good for sports"

Pros: Picture quality, ease of use, quick setup, looks/esthetics

    Cons: Slow refresh

Summary: Overall a really good HDTV and at the price of $1399 an excellent value. Chose the Sony over Panasonic, Philips, and Vizio for great picture quality, reliable brand, and right size/value. This is a top notch HDTV for watching movies, standard and high def broadcast television. Setup is great. The stand is already attached, just cut the straps, lift the box up, put the TV on a table and you are done. After toning down the brightness and vivid colors, the picture is really best in class too. The TV automatically senses the incoming signal and adjusts the picture every time you change the channel. And unlike many other TVs, the Sony will take a direct command such as InputHDMI1 from a universal remote, so it less likely to get out of sync when you are using a home theater receiver with the it. The only down side and it is a big one - for sports fans the 8ms refresh rate won't cut it. This is not a great TV for sports, I watched a couple of baseball and basketball games on it and it is unacceptable. You get that "woosh" of motion blur as the players run and move. You don't notice it in the store, but at home it is really unacceptable. Bottom line, an excellent TV for everything except sports. As much as I love everything else about the Sony, I am swapping back to Panasonic plasma. But I really do like everything else about this TV and if the sports blur does not bother you the Sony has really a great picture and excellent electronics.
