"Great set but LCD clouds are a deal breaker" on by Spiffypants

Pros: Amazing HD picture, great value, 1080p is spectacular

Cons: Clouds visible during dark scenes

Summary: The v2500 is an amazing set and I think represents the best value in LCD from Sony. It's essentially the same set as the XBR2 - it uses the same LCD panel - minus a couple features and the snazzy (but huge) glass bezel. The v2500 is compact, with bottom mounted speakers, and yet still attractive (it is actually a dark gray, not the battleship gray the pictures make it out to be).

HD programming is incredible on this set. Colors are vivid and accurate and on its default "vivid" setting the set could light up a small stadium. SD looks ok on this set (as good as it goes on any 1080p set) but you'll really want to stick to HD programming as it never fails to impress. Even more incredible is 1080p from my computer (using a DVI to HDMI cable) - 46" makes for one heck of a game of Half Life 2! Plenty of inputs (2 HDMI) and a decent, if basic, remote round out the package.

Unfortunately, this set is not perfect. In the month I've had mine, I've been dealing with gray-white "clouds" (actually light bleeding through the LCD panel) that are very apparent during darker scenes. These non-uniform clouds are annoying and can even been seen on brighter scenes were they dull out bright colors. My advice - do a lot of online research before buying! (Google "xbr clouds" as a starting point) If you do have a cloud-free set, you're in for a treat because I think the v2500 is otherwise the best deal in LCD HD.

"Very satisfied, especially with SD content." on by 305south

Pros: Excellent picture and user friendly remote.

    Cons: None so far.

Summary: After looking for 6 months at all technologies I decided on LCD and feel I made the right decision. I waited for this specific model as I felt it was better looking and also a better deal compared to the XBR2 & 3. I am using DirectTV now with no HD (waiting for DVR) and the SD picture is very viewable but the HD picture off the antenna is exceptional. I know everyone has their favorite technology and I have read some Plasma supporters say how bad LCD looks but being totally objective I find that totally false (at least with this set I don't see it). It is true that Plasma has a totally different look as does RP but I prefer the LCD and would recommend this TV to anyone considering LCD.

"Incredible value XBR engine without Xtra cost" on by tomlaf

Pros: Great picture, bottom speakers allow for norrower installation space, stand is included in price, Easy set up

Cons: Speakers are a little weak, but I'll be using my home theater

Summary: This is an amazing value. Bravia XBR without extra width of glass bezel, and minus a few bells and whistles, but I only had to pay $2,650 through Amazon including shipping, uncrating, and setting on cabinet by delivery people. Due to the holiday rush, I now have to wait 2 weeks for DirectTV to come out with my HD equipment :(. My wife really got me a great Chritmas present.

"GREAT Sony LCD Television !!" on by sydneytag

Pros: Picture Quality, Aesthetics, 1080p Resolution, Swivel Pedestal, 2 HDMI inputs

    Cons: Speakers could be better

Summary: This is a wonderful TV! Don't pay the extra $500 for the "bells & whistles" of the XBR. The LCD has the same 1080p resolution as the XBR. Who really wants a heavy floating glass frame around the screen of their TV? And if you place your TV on a stand, the swivel pedestal is a must!

    "Outstanding Value" on by sicktime1127

Pros: Incredible picture, easy to operate, lives up to the advertisements

Cons: Remote is the weakest link and takes some getting used to

Summary: We researched LCD vs. Plasma for over six months. We conducted so much research we have the various model numbers memorized! When Sony offerd the KDL-46V2500 at a great price after Thanksgiving, we jumped at the opportunity. The picture is outstanding, the sound quality is top notch, and the appearance of the unit in the family room is stunning. Less money than the XBR models but well worth the price. Elated with the choice and would recommend the unit to anyone contemplating purchasing an LCD over a Plasma.

    Updated
We have now had the unit for close to one month. We are more pleased now than we were at first. With Directv's high def package, and the stronger satellite signal than provided by cable, the images whether in highfed or SD are simply astonishing. The pictures are crisp, clear, and so vivid, watching a standard television is depressing. If you're looking for an LCD unit that is worth the price, this unit is for you.
