"Great set but LCD clouds are a deal breaker"
Pros: Amazing HD picture, great value, 1080p is spectacular
Cons: Clouds visible during dark scenes
Summary: The v2500 is an amazing set and I think represents the best value in LCD from Sony. It's essentially the same set as the XBR2 - it uses the same LCD panel - minus a couple features and the snazzy (but huge) glass bezel. The v2500 is compact, with bottom mounted speakers, and yet still attractive (it is actually a dark gray, not the battleship gray the pictures make it out to be).
HD programming is incredible on this set. Colors are vivid and accurate and on its default "vivid" setting the set could light up a small stadium. SD looks ok on this set (as good as it goes on any 1080p set) but you'll really want to stick to HD programming as it never fails to impress. Even more incredible is 1080p from my computer (using a DVI to HDMI cable) - 46" makes for one heck of a game of Half Life 2! Plenty of inputs (2 HDMI) and a decent, if basic, remote round out the package.
Unfortunately, this set is not perfect. In the month I've had mine, I've been dealing with gray-white "clouds" (actually light bleeding through the LCD panel) that are very apparent during darker scenes. These non-uniform clouds are annoying and can even been seen on brighter scenes were they dull out bright colors. My advice - do a lot of online research before buying! (Google "xbr clouds" as a starting point) If you do have a cloud-free set, you're in for a treat because I think the v2500 is otherwise the best deal in LCD HD.

No clouds on my set. It's a March 2007 build.
I have seen lots of problems on other 42 and 46 LCD sets that are visible when content is being played (banding, lack of sharpness, etc.) I haven't seen any of these problems on the Sony. -
I'm in my fourth month with my KDL-46V2500 and this T.V. is truely beautiful. The remote is easy to use, plug-ins on the back are well layed out and have easy access. The picture in HD and DVD is incredible! The colours are vibrant and true.
I have one complaint, the back light bled through the picture. Noteably when the picture is dark. For instance, the movie Underworld is mostly a dark show and clouding and light sometimes came through. That is until I had Sony come out and replace my screen. The problem is now resolved and now there are no complaints. The Sony is a bit on the pricey side but day time or night, this TV gets two big thumbs up! -

From the day I first received my KDL-46V2500 in December 2006, I reported the glow on the TV to Sony. Sony replaced LCD panel but the cloud or glow is still noticable especially in top left corner of screen. I agree that this set has a great picture, but the cloud problem is noticable on a black background. Sony's servicemen have been out three times and the results have been to make sure the light sensor is ON and the BACK LIGHT is set to no higher than 6 or 7. This still did not correct the cloud problem on my set. What it does, if you are watching in a dark room, it darkens the screen brightness to where you can hardly see the picture.

I'VE HAD MY SET FOR FIVE WEEKS NOW,AND HAVE NO
PROBLEMS AT ALL. YOU SHOULD HAVE RETURNED IT.
AND IF YOU DID RETURN AND HAD SAME PROBLEM
RETURN IT AGAIN AND GET YOUR MONEY BACK. -
I only have minor clouds, and only when looking at no signal input. When an image is on the screen, you cannot see any difference where the clouding was.
