Pros None at this point....Didn't have a working TV long enough to figure this out
Cons Terrible Customer Service. Can only hope that there is an outcome that chenges this opinion.
Summary I purchased this TV on Feb 29 2008 and could not have been more disappointed. In 45 days the TV has stopped working. I opted for not taking the store warranty thinking that we pay a premium for Sony quality.
Boy was I wrong, not only did the TV stop working its now more than a week since I called Technical support for in home service and their service, for lack of a better word is nothing short of miserable.
After a week of waiting, I took a day off from work to get the TV fixed, the technician doesn't show up!! He reschedules to another day and even then I can only hope that he shows up today.
If I want to complain, I will have to request another authorized repair shop which means more waiting!!
Completely dissatisfied with both the TV, that stopped working in 45 days, and the service, which is bordering on the lines of non existent.
Finally after a few more verbal disagreements with the completely incompetent repair guy, he showed up more than an hour and a half late.
As whiny as I sound, he called to reschedule a second time (after a week a waiting) and then again when he finally got there said that if he cannot find parking he will move on. Not sure if they are training their people to ensure that once you request service from Sony, you will never buy from them again.
Thankfully, the TV is now working and hope it will continue to do so.
Once again, if you do find yourself with a 'Lemon' you can be almost assured, at least from my experience, that the customer service if terrible!!
YES....the TV is not working again. And, as you will have it, once again the brilliance of Sony's customer service means at least another week of waiting. If you request quicker service, they cant help because they have to order parts, if you request a refund or an exchange, you have to call during normal working hours. Isn't it fantastic that they actually want you to call from work (yes some of us actually work to be able to afford these things) so that everyone around you is aware of the brilliant Sony product and shadowy customer service (We have spent collectively more than 5 hours with them so we rightfully have an opinion).
This has to be taken into consideration before making your purchase. Customer service is equally important and from my experience, I can reassure you of that fact.
Totally disgruntled at this point.
"Sony let me down"on by 1040lrod
Pros Great Tv when it worked. Was a 5 star.
Cons Only had it 10 Months and now the right side,( on a cold startup), continuous flicker, a large dark spot, and duplicate / overlap picture. Also the cooling fan at times is noticable.
Summary I had always been a Sony fan because my first Sony lasted over 20 years, and still worked when I gave it away. The second one I had lasted me 12 years. This new KBR has been working for around 10 months when it gave out on me. A sony technician now has it at the shop and I am starting to Question Sony quality. I am very disappointed with this situation because I did a great amount of research thinking I have done well with the decision. Many people come to me for advise on various things because they know I read all types of reviews. I have had many family and friends check out the TV but this type of news that the Sony is out for repairs will shock many as it did me. I understand things happen but when you pay premium money on something you should expect the quality in return.
Pros Superb picture, extensive user menu for endless picture control
Cons pricey in the realm of LCDs (but this LCD out preforms everthing in it's field)
Summary I'm not sure whether the people that left unfavorable reviews for this television are idiots or just lazy. Just like everyone else I compared everything from Phillips, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp to Vizio. This is an LCD display that can only be compared to Plasmas because you have to go to the high end Plasmas (even according to the professional critics) to find anything that matches or out preforms this television. I can't say this enough, "This is an LCD being compared to Plasmas." That, right there, should tell you enough to purchace this work of art. As for watching sports and having judder or pixeling, turn on the motion flow, check your settings, get better components that are hooked-up to the TV. There simply isn't any set out there that provides a better picture for any format; ie: movies, sports, games, home video, computer etc, for this price. You literally have to go the $5,000 and up pricing in Plasmas to be in the same ball park as this Sony and then it's, "Slightly better than the Sony" or, "The same performance" etc. As for the "Clouds" (it's Mura) it comes from the over abunance of light being put out by the television in a very dark room. My Sony sits in the family room and to watch it during the day I increase the backlight, and at night (yep you guessed it) I lower the backlight. It's amazing how customizable this set is and maybe that's not for everyone. Don't like how the motion flow makes your favorite big screen action movie look, turn off the motion flow. You will love how detailed things become, it's not Sony's fault that movie magic looses some of the awe factor because you can see it more clearly. You can always choose to view anything as it was intended. This LCD TV does more than you can explain in a short time (and this was longer than I had planned), you just have to see for yourself and take the time to educate yourself on how to use the system. So you may be paying a little more but it's the best bang for the buck and if 46" isn't a must, Sony also puts out a 40"XBR (what I looked at first) for a lot less.
Pros Love the look of the bezeled glass.
Cons A $2800 TV should last longer than 14 months. The picture is sometimes "plaid", sometimes half a black screen, sometimes it "ghosts", sometimes its blurry around the sides. This happens EVERY time we turn it on, lasts 10-20 minutes.
Summary We bought our set in January, 2008 and it was fine until March 2009. When we turn it on we have distorted picture, sometimes half black, sometimes "plaid". It disappears after about 10-20 minutes. Next time we turn it on we go through the same thing. Every time we talk to Sony they say the same thing.."it's probably internal". Duh! The store we bought it in said it could be the board or just a loose wire but it would cost about $600 to find out and there was no guarantee. So we'll watch it as long as we can and after it finally dies, we'll open the back and see if there's anything loose. We would do that now but don't want to make the tv angry so it quits now. Normally I love all my Sony products but this may change my buying habits.
Pros Worked as advertised for 15 months (12 month warranty) then the LCD panel died. DON'T BUY SONY UNLESS YOU PONY UP FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THEIR SHODDY WORKMANSHIP!!!
Cons Quality. While it worked as advertised, I am really pissed off right now that it died 3 months out of warranty. It costs more to replace the LCD panel than it does to buy another t.v.
Summary I was on the fence between this and an LG. I went with Sony because of the "name" and dependability. What a mistake. "So sorry, your LCD panel is bad and it's out of warranty". Bottom line is I'm pissed as Sony and will not buy their products ever again - 30+ yrs of consumer sales lost over their crappy product, lousy warranty and poor service. No wonder they're losing market share.
