"The Sony XBR5 vs. the Samsung 81 Series"
Pros: Outstand picture quality, sharp image, motion stabalizer (Motion Flow) best in it's field, easy operation.
Cons: A little pricey
Summary: I bought both the Sony XBR5 and the Samsung 81 Series-both 46". I wanted to be sure I was getting the right T.V. for my money, quality, value, ergonomics, performace, etc. Both T.V.s are absolutely fantastic. I returned the Samsung and I'll explain why...
The XBR5 has the sharpest image I have seen on an LCD. I had spent 2 months comparing T.V.s-LCDs, Plasmas, Rear Projections, everything that had a screen that I could hook up HD cable to. I think Sony did a great job making a T.V. that was very good looking. The glass edge is a nice tough and the non-glossy screen is perfect to keep from having reflections interupt your viewing pleasures. This was the main problem I found with the Samsung 81; high gloss screen. Sony's Motion Flow outperforms any other motion stabalizer, including Samsung's Motion Plus. 120Hz technology is the future of T.V.s so people who think it is annoying or that it actually takes away from the picture should try and get used to it, it's going to be everywhere soon, like it or not. I have gotten used to it and I think it's great, you just have to watch it and learn to appreiate it, it will get better with time!
To sum up, the XBR5 is a great T.V. the best in my opinion. The Samsung 81 is a great T.V. too though, a little cheaper as well, but Sony has locked down LCD's with the XBR5. I had both...truuust me. Hope this helped!

I had the Samsung 71F (which is almost the same as the 81F, but not identical) and took it back for the Sony XBR4. Although I loved the Samsung, The glare was just too much for me. I am the type of person who likes to open the windows and let the sun in on a beautiful day and the samsung gave me problems. The salesman at circuit city (who was self declared a samsung fan) told me to re-arrange my living room to help with the glare problem. Is he serious??? And then he tried to tell me that the Samsung and the Sony have the same panel because they were manufactured in the same facility. Which is wrong. The Sony is Matte and the Samsung is glossy (which is one of the major reasons why the blacks are a little deeper on the samsung). But I was impress with the blacks of the Sonys. I think this TV is the rolls royce of LCD. I even like it better than most plasmas. Plasmas seem too Dim to me. I enjoy the "POP" that LCD gives. Also, The 120HZ feature is awesome!! I have gotten so used to the refresh rate, when I watch normal LCDs and plasmas , I feel like something is missing. This Television rivals most plasmas in my book. Also, most Plasmas are not TRUE HD (1080p). The future is 1080p, Although some may think it is a fad, its sure lasting long and even plasmas are going 1080p now. I am going to wait a year or so and maybe get a 1080p plasma. I have decided that taking sides in the Plasma vs. LCD war is not what I am going to do. I am going to get both! Who says you can't have it all? You only live once why not treat yourself while you are here? -Chadmak09
