"HD is spectacular, reg. TV is shot in 4:3, but streched to 16:9 and comes in grainy."
Pros: Excellent HD picture, 1080 & 720i, great sound output.
Cons: Grainy picture compared to a regular TV becuase of image strech.
Summary: I really like my 26" Bravia, and it looks fine when you're used to watching regular TV's. When you go from HD to regular television, the picutre looks crappy just because the image is streched from 4:3 to 16:9. I had considered returning it, but as a product designer, I also use the screen for a computer screen--allowing me to use programs like autocad, illustrator, solid works, indesign, and photoshop, and even game on it as a large LCD monitor. I purchased the LCDTV at the Sony Store in the Cherry Creek mall in Denver Colorado. Though the price was higher than Best buy, best buy wanted $150 for a 3 year warranty, which Sony offered a 5 year warranty included in the $1999.99 price. Worth it in my opinion.

I have the 40" model, which has the same features. You can easily switch to "normal" mode (instead of stretched) by pressing the "wide" button on your remote. Problem solved! Standard def looks great in non-stretched mode.

How is the quality of a 4:5 non hd pic?
