Pros Picture makes one feel to be participating, not watching.
Cons Dark scenes get very dark, almost black, lighten up, and go black again. Doesn't matter if it is DVD or cable broadcast.
Summary Contacted Sony support with the problem, they arranged for an authorized technician home visit. He contacted technical support who had no answers, saying they would have to contact the engineers. Engineers supposedly told him that it was the LCD panel. Seeing as though the set was only 2 weeks old, we told Best Buy to swap it out for a new set. The new set arrived, and after the technicians set it up, I inserted the DVD. Same problem. We will be returning and trying a different brand. Just found a comparable review on Amazon. This set has a fantastic picture if you're never going to encounter dark scenes.
Pros Programing the set is a snap all you have to do is follow the quick set up instructions sheet that comes with the set. Performance of the picture during action movies is outstanding no blurring of the picture at all.
Cons The table top stand that comes with the set is cheap plastic and has no adjustments to level the set or turn it from side to side or up and down. Other than the stand i like everything else about the set.
Summary This is my first big screen TV and my first LCD TV and all i can say is WOW!!! This set is replacing a flat screen 26 inch picture tube set and is light years ahead of that! I am in my mid 50's so i am not a tech type of person but i found the instructions for hooking up everything very easy to read and follow. Along with my TV came a Sony Blue Ray player, it was part of a package deal, the set up and linking together of the two items was painless due to the fact that Sony uses a wireless link between the two items so i really had to do nothing but turn each item on and they were able to talk to one another and link up. Now that i had the TV and Blue Ray ready to run i moved on to hooking up my home theater system along with my Bose speakers. This too was a snap and in just a little under an hour i had everything wired up and ready to run. Now for the FUN stuff, i turned on the set and went through the color and picture setting to adjust them to my liking, this was done by using the menu on the TV and was super easy to do, the menu shows you all the different options you are able to change and all you need to do is just point and click to adjust each item. Now that i had everything set to my liking it was time to settle back and enjoy my first movie on my new TV. I loaded up a Blue Ray copy of Lord Of The Rings, i have got to tell you i have seen this movie before on cable using my old 26 inch TV but seeing it on my new 40 inch wide screen TV was TRULY awesome! Now i know that word is over used but i saw and heard things i never experienced before! This is truly the best way to view movies at home. One thing i want to say before i end this review, reading what other people have to say about a big screen TV your thinking about buying is a big help in making up your mind but the MOST IMPORTANT thing you NEED to do is go and view each set your thinking about buying because what may look good to my eyes may not look good to yours. Case in point was a Samsung 40 inch TV i was thinking about buying, all the on line reviews for this TV were great and i am sure that its a good TV but it just did not look as good to my eyes as the Sony did when i saw them side by side.
Pros Excellent picture quality, accurate colors, great on screen motion
Cons small auto dimming issue that can be turned off. Menu could be set up to be easier accessed - also the remote is very limited
Summary I just replaced a 60hz Toshiba Regza that I thought was the holy grail of affordable HDTV's with this Sony. After getting this badboy home, I knew I was wrong about the Toshiba. I am very happy that I picked this over the 42" Samsung A650 - which was ironically more $$ than the Sony -usually not the case with the Sony products. I bought it based purely on what I saw with my own eyes at the store - no reviews were out on this TV other than people complaining about the contrast dimming issue - again this can be turned OFF. I googled the product & found people complaining about it - and then a fix for it. Problem solved. The only reason I gave this a 4 star instead of a 5 star was that you had to turn the feature off (in energy settings to measure ambient lighting) and the limited remote & clunky menu interface that could have been better. If you want my opinion of only what matters (how it looks) then you have a full 5 stars. I didn't even listen to the built in speakers - I run my audio thru a surround system so I cannot comment there.
I had to leave my take on this as I think that several of the bad reviews out there really turn people off when looking at this product. It is so new that there aren't a whole lot of reviews out there.
The motion flow setting looks awesome for sports, documentaries & CGI animation but it looks weird for movies or TV shows - better to turn it to low or off for those.
At the store, I couldn't fully decide on the Sony or the Samsung until the guy grabbed a BD player with Iron Man playing on it. The Sony won hands down.
Trust me 100% - this TV is awesome. Oh, and games look great too on the PS3.
Pros HD regular programming nice, and bright
Cons Lose video when changing from standard def to HD or reverse. Standard definiton pic really bad
cant stand watching. Clear sometimes, but continually varies with scenes.Very annoying
