Pros The nice onyx color
Cons When watching television it seems as though you have eye drops in your eyes and the picture never focus
Summary It is simply terrible that I purchased this television and I am still making payments. I purchased this television since April 2006, last week my son was trying to work on the focus and the television fell and broke. He was devastated and was looking as though the world was coming to an end when I arrived home. I hugged him and stated, it's not the end of the world and frankly I couldn't stand the televison because of the poor picture quality. I am now looking at the review ratings on cnet before I purchase another 32-inch LCD.
Pros Nice looking TV
Cons No widescreen capability. Specs are false
Summary Bought this TV from Walmart.com. Specifications on their website and on the TV box stated 16:9 widescreen, 1200:1 contrast ratio and 8ms response time. After having trouble with adjusting the images I consulted the manual which stated the specs were 4:3, zoom, and fullscreen. No 16:9 or widescreen capability. All the people appear grossly obese and/or pregnant in the fullscreen mode. The images are fine in 4:3 but I didn't order a 4:3 LCD TV. The manual also had pasted over the 800:1 constrast ratio and changed it to 1000:1. That is still not the 1200:1 that was advertised and also printed on the outside of the box. There was also a pasted over correction for the response time changing it from 15ms to 8ms. So I am assuming I received a TV with specs of 4:3, 800:1, and 15ms instead of the 16:9, 1200:1 and 8ms TV that I ordered. Of course it's going back.
Pros nothing, im serious, it broke after turning it on a few times
Cons everything,it broke after turning it on a few times, SOYO told me to bad, now im out 1000
Summary Payed 1000 for this TV. It for our spare bedroom and was only used a handful of times. 13 months later it broke. Apparently there is some defect in this soyo model television and they are all breaking. Messaged soyo and their horrible customer service said to bad its over our 12 month factory warranty. They basically sold faulty products and said to bad thats your problem. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS TV
Pros Good price, Good resolution, best black I've seen on an LCD
Cons side speakers, not enough volume control
Summary I don't honestly understand or know what everyone else is complaining about. I think that they absolutely have a defective TV. I did a lot of shopping and comparison and this TV is the only LCD that I could find equal in color sharpness and clarity to the Samsung and Sharp LCD's and at half the price.
As far as the 16:9 aspect issues that were mentioned in other reviews, the native dimensions is 16:9 and when the TV encounters a 4:3 ratio signal, it merely makes it fit to full screen instead of auto-detecting and cutting the sides off to make it the corect aspect ratio, as more expensive TV's do (like my Mitsubishi 52525 DLP that I have in my livingroom).
My guess is they were victim to bad TV's and they're not terribly educated in the different modes and how it all works. I feel bad for them.
Pros Great picture. Real good blacks. Reliable. Hasn't had a hiccup in 3 years of ownership. Stylish. Good sound for a flat panel too.
Cons The remote has to be pointed right at the TV.
Summary If you can get it for under 400 or so, this is a great TV; I wouldn't spend more though. It's been reliable TV and looks really good too.
