"Exceptional picture and sound to rival competition!!!"

5 stars  | on by RedbrickRider

Pros

The automatic settings which adjust to any broadcast variances is phenominal....after taking the time to understand it's quirks I was very impressed and pleased with the quality of the picture.

Cons

A little difficult to understand when attempting to adjust settings to personal preferences....when changing inputs and settings (because of overlap of capabilities) it would clear previous settings. Once I figured it out though it worked great!

Being a long time fan of Toshiba's quality....I had been monitoring reviews on the WEB, since the XV545 series appeared on the market, to see how the current line stacked up against the competition. Frankly I'm dissappointed in some of the so called professional or ediotorial type reviews. They obviously didn't take the time to understand the plethora of adjustments available in the XV545 series. One professional reviewing group (on the 46XV545U) stated it lacked refinement for adjusting color preferances.....this statement IMHO lacked investigative skills into a thoroughly thought out and sophisticated piece of equipment!. Granted, the owners manual and on-screen menu can be confusing and to some degree frustrating....it took me a few hours to figure out that certain settings would cancel out or GRAY OUT other menu functions that I wanted to access for adjusting...but once I realized what was occuring it was relatively easy to set up my preferences.

The picture and quality of sound IMHO defintely compares with and is competative to all the other manufactures of LCD's today. I could have spent far more on some other manufacturer that may have given me more bling....but I don't believe that the picture quality could have improved significantly to warrant the extra money by my thinking. My expectations are that it will maintain Toshiba's well established reputation of long years of flawless use.....I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the newest Toshiba line of LCD's to friends and family?!

I bought this from Conn's in Dallas, TX to replace a three month old Vizio that was stolen. I loved the Vizio, but the Toshiba was on sale and I have had good luch with Toshiba in the past. When I first got it home, the cable box remote would not function with the TV on. After much searching on the internet, I found that adjusting the picture brightness allowed the remotes to work. I found the sound quality to be poor. The picture seemed to have too much green or blue and I did not find that any of the adjustments helped any. Now, the picture won't come on (the sound does work). You can't even get to any of the menus. I have only had this for two weeks and I can't get Conn's to replace it until a tech comes out. Do not buy the Toshiba 42X545u!!!!
