"Good tv for its price, but needs improvement"

Pros: Easy setup, menus are easy, good overall picture as long as it is not a dark image

Cons: poor resolution in dark images and standard definition
Summary: We bought this tv at Best Buy on their day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) sale. I must admit that we made a hasty decision since there were thousands of people at the store and only 15 available in the store. We were one of the lucky 15 that got the coupon to purchase one of the units in stock at the store. We got it professionally installed on the wall in our family room and used it for about 2 weeks when we started noticing strange looking graphics in dark scenes. We were watching Superman Returns and when Superman and Lois Lane were flying in the night sky, it looked horrible. The dark night sky was several shades of grey and sometimes flashing in certain parts of the screen. I will be the first to admit that we probably did not have it adjusted perfectly, but I dont think adjustments would have eliminating all the issues. We also noticed that overall, the picture seemed a bit snowy when inspected closely. We went back to Best Buy and after carefully looking at the other models of plasma displays in the store including the higher end ones in the Magnolia section of the store, we finally decided to upgrade to a higher model. We ended up with the Pioneer Elite Pro1140HD 50 inch plasma. The difference is amazing. We watched that same scene in Superman Returns and it was crystal clear with deep blacks. The Pioneer Elite was nearly double the regular price of the Toshiba (even more when you consider the sale price we got the Toshiba for). You definately get what you pay for. The Pioneer is probably 10 times the quality of the Toshiba. My advice is this. Shop around, and look closely at every unit you consider. Also be willing to pay a bit more for better quality.
