These settings are good for Blu-ray, dvd, Directv HD (cable HD), and Xbox 360....as for sharpness, 70 and above is great (due to SD sources upscaled / upconverted to 1080i or 1080p). For HD you adjust for video noise vs. edge sharpness.

"A fantastic deal on a top-notch LCD" on by cj-kent

Pros: 4 HDMI's, broad contrast, great colors, elegant design

Cons: Slight washout at extreme angles, No PIP, Sound could be better

Summary: I bought this TV a week ago after researching for two years. I compared this model to the Sony's and Samsung's and Sharp's. I would say it's on par with the Sharp's. It can't compete with the Bravia's or the Samsung models in terms of contrast. However, it has remarkable contrast. The blacks are very good and I would say are better than some Plasma's I've seen. There are a plethora of aspect ratio options and the "native" choice gives you true dot-by-dot 1080p resolution for 1080 source material. My Sony BDP-S301 Blu-ray player looks phenomenal on it. The Dyna-light function dims and brightens the backlight as you watch a program. I was skeptical of this feature initially, but it has proven itself to be quite effective. This TV also shines in the area of adjustability. You can adjust just about every setting including the backlight (even with the Dyna-light feature "on"). It really annoys me when you can't adjust backlighting because that often is what contributes to the "washout" effect you get with dark scenes of a movie. I have to admit that off-angles are not the best on this TV and I've seen better on other LCD's. However, this is a minor issue and doesn't give me pause in confidently recommending this TV for anyone whose ready to make the plunge into HD. Especially when you can get this set for 1200 or less online. I'm very satisfied with my selection.

    "NEGATIVE REVIEW" on by pjhinhawaii

    Pros: NEGATIVE REVIEW

    Cons: NEGATIVE REVIEW

Summary: TV worked fine for 15 months. Then the screen went black. The authorized Toshiba technician said my tv had a bad LCD panel. Unfortunately, my warranty was only 1 year. I paid $1250 for my tv at the time of purchase. I paid $100 for the diagnosis of the problem. To fix it would (surprisingly) cost $1640. Toshiba offered to pay half to have it fixed (because the warranty just recently expired). So I would have to pay $840. So I would pay in total $1250+$100+$840 to fix a tv that I did not break. Sounds ridiculous to me. And what if it breaks again 2 months later? Unfortunatley, that was Toshiba's take it or leave it offer. They would pay $840 for the repair of my tv, but wouldn't give me $840 towards the purchase of a new Toshiba. I ended up buying a cheap, $600 42" LCD Best Buy brand that comes with a 2 year warranty. I will never buy Toshiba again. I believe they sold me a lemon and did not stand behind their product. And after reading the problems of other Toshiba tv owners, it appears that this LCD Panel problem is nothing new.

"Great LCD TV, awesome price." on by 79chris

Pros: Great contrast, true blacks, bright colors. Good visibility even with glare from sunlight. Great picture tuning options, automatically remembers settings on each individual input, except the gaming mode. I also got the regza-linked dvd player.

Cons: Only complaint I have is that the buttons for power, channel, volume, are hard to see and use if you misplace your remote and want to turn the unit on/off. Toshiba should consider easy to read labeling for these buttons.

Summary: I am very pleased with this TV. I did a lot of research before buying and this was one of the best deals for the price. I found that similar features and quality cost $500-800 more in other brands. I know the CNET review said it had inaccurate color, but I have not noticed this, especially if you use the picture tuning options.
Go but one, you will be happy with this TV.
