These settings are good for Blu-ray, dvd, Directv HD (cable HD), and Xbox 360....as for sharpness, 70 and above is great (due to SD sources upscaled / upconverted to 1080i or 1080p). For HD you adjust for video noise vs. edge sharpness.

Sorry if I offended you. I assumed you were using electronic calibration. Since these measurements are subjective I prefer the CNET brightness calibration of 52. Your color balances are better than theirs.

  • reply on April 20, 2009 by TVExpert

The settings are based on 5s because in estimating it just works. The settings are based on 100, 50, 20, 10 point increments; its called Math. People have 5 fingers on each hand - its called counting, its based on nature. - TV EXPERT( besides the settings look GREAT!!)

  • reply on April 18, 2009 by Cosmic_Ranger

Great settings and thanks for the work! Question though - why are the settings in increments of 5 when the controls allow for more precision?

Hello your most recent update (April 11th) I'm amazed , I am watching the dark knight on my blueray player and the colour/black scenes are awesome! one question what sharpness level do you prefer im caught up between 70 or 85 , 85 sometimes looks a bit to sharp in some scenes and are these settings good with hd digital cable as well ?

  • reply on April 11, 2009 by TVExpert

The Settings can be used in HD or SD -ENJOY -T.V. EXPERT

  • reply on March 21, 2009 by RaptorsRule

are these settings for hd or sd.lol u have done a ton a tweaking

  • reply on January 31, 2009 by TVExpert

If you adjust settings from movie mode the settings are based on movie mode in prefrence, you can tell by the tint/tone of colors. So if you start in movie mode, prefrence is still in movie mode.

  • reply on January 26, 2009 by 22nando22

how do i keep it in movie mode? everytime i change the first setting it goes back to preference mode? can u please help me out with that thank u.

Turn off Dynalight and Dynamic Contrast to brighten and stop "washout."

  • reply on November 6, 2008 by drawdc

I am trying to learn more about adjusting settings to optimize my HDTVs. The settings you gave for the Toshiba look terrible on my TV. This is just personal preference, the are washed out and dark. Any suggestions?
