"Toshiba 46RV540U is an excellent TV!"
Pros: Great colors, blacks and image detail. No blur on fast motion. SD looks great. HD looks stunning. Better price than Sony or Samsung. I hate TVs with image artifacts. I have NO complaints about this Toshiba.
Cons: None so far.
Summary: I originally planned on buying a Plasma, but the video engineers where I work talked be out of it after they claimed that image retention is still an issue with Plasma. I then moved forward to buy a Sony, as I have two Sony TVs now, which are great. But I needed a TV for my bedroom so I didn't have too much $$. BUT, my main Sony TV is a 120Hz, 1080p/24 display and I didn't want to settle for anything less. I saw the Toshiba at Costco for $1199. After doing extensive research I bought the Toshiba. After using a DVD with the THX setup to adjust color, tint, brightness and contrast, the Toshiba is terrific. I watch a lot of sports and with the 120Hz display I only see rock-solid images. The tests state that Toshiba does a better job than Sony on 120Hz, and I always considered Sony the best. Blu-Ray is jaw-dropping. Also, I still watch a lot of SD material and I was concerned how well the Toshiba would display this. Fear not! The Toshiba has a great image processor and standard-def looks just fine. Just ask my wife who watches a lot of standard-def HGTV on this Toshiba. Not as good as an old CRT, but the old CRT does not look as good with HD, so I'll settle for better HD and acceptable SD. The Toshiba speakers give very good sound, especially for the bedroom. Also, the Toshiba has a function called "Daylight" where it brightens the image when the room is bright, like during daytime, then it darkens the image at night. I didn't think this would be good, but it is. I like the fact that the Toshiba remote kept two of my favorite functions: 1) Half-mute, where the first push of the mute button only does half-mute, so you can answer the phone yet still hear the TV. 2) Using Channel Return, you can jump between two sources. For instance, if you are watching a DVD then tune to a football game to check the score, simply press the "RTN" button and you jump from football directly back to DVD. This beats needing to scroll down a long list of Input Options to get back to DVD. I've never seen another TV with this feature. My fear that I was settling for a second-rate LCD is unfounded. This Toshiba is a great TV!!
