"Awesome Picture"

4.5 stars  | on by adombrowski

Pros

Full 1080p res. No upscaling. 3 HDMI inputs, Excellent sound from speaker bar.

Cons

Loss of networking capabilities from LX models.

Summary

I exchanged a Toshiba 42LX196 for this set because the 42" had a stray pixel and Toshiba could not get a panel for it. The 47" was a great upgrade as the 1080p resolution was true 1080p as to where the 42LX196 was 1080i upscaled to 1080p. The HL series ... Read full review

I exchanged a Toshiba 42LX196 for this set because the 42" had a stray pixel and Toshiba could not get a panel for it. The 47" was a great upgrade as the 1080p resolution was true 1080p as to where the 42LX196 was 1080i upscaled to 1080p. The HL series does lack the netwroking capabilities found in the LX (Cinema Series) models. With the networking you can get updates on the firmware, view video and pics over the network, listen to music, and even send your TV an email telling it to record shows through the i-Link IR send through.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the 47HL167 is an awesome set that produces a picture that rivals higher priced models, but it would be more awesome if it had the networking capabilities of other Toshiba models.

"Three years in and not a single problem-great TV."

5 stars  | on by mp91163

Pros

Rich colors-this TV allows the knowledgeable user to tweak their picture settings to an infinite degree, if you so choose
Menu doesn't fall into the Sony "trap" of listing lots of JUNK you'll never use

Cons

Sound quality...but seriously, people: You just spent a lot of $$$ on a great TV-why would you NOT hook it up to a decent A/V receiver? Even the cheap sub-$250 receivers perform well...

Summary

It never, EVER, ceases to amaze me that there are literally thousands of people, who obviously have Internet access, who purchase any brand of HD TV, and seemingly expect it to magically transform standard-definition content into high-def. Let me ask y'all one question: Did you do YOUR homework before making this purchase?

That said, after 3 years of use, this Toshiba TV has been perfect...no dead pixels, nothing.

"Main board bad after 13 mo."

1 stars  | on by flyfast1

Pros

No pros, poorly built

Cons

Piece of junk, Toshiba worthless, won't help 1 day after warranty. Qualtity isn't very good if the main board goes out after 13 months and parts cost over $700

Summary

DO NOT BUY TOSHIBA at any cost
