    "Disappointed with analog picture quality"

by venkris on September 24, 2005

    Pros: Decent digital quality

Cons: Poor analog picture quality, hard to change video input source

Summary: In addition to my 55" plamsa, I wanted to get a second HD ready TV for my PS2 and PC. Viewsonic 32" LCD monitor sounded like best value for the money ($1190). Initially when I connected compsite RCA cable from my PS2 to viewsonic, picture quality was horrible. Couldn't even read much of the text in GT4 game just from 2 feet away. Then I replaced the cable with a component video cable and quality seemed to improve a lot. Also tried the VGA input from a PC and the quality was not bad. I tried several analog video output devices (all through RCA cables) and the viewsonic quality was not good. Another problem is usability issue: It takes 10 clicks to change the video input (you need to bring up the menu, go to page 2, scrool down to the input you want, hit enter, click menu few times to exit out). Summary: Digital quality is decent but no where near plasma quality. Analog quality was very poor doesn't even compare to my other Sony tube TV. More issues include too much delay between mode changes & PIP changes (screen goes blank), and a very noisy shutoff.

All the inputs you are mentioning are analog not digital. The only digital input on this TV (and most LCD TVs) is the HDMI input. You will notice a much better picture quality with HDMI from a digital source, such as a HD tuner, upscaling DVD player, or computer with DVI/HDMI video output. Component, S-Video, and Composite are all analog.

I have the n3250w, and do not notice any noise during shutoff... you might have a bad one (or one that is going to go bad!)
