"cheap tv with decent picture"
Pros: price, connectivity, hdtv picture quality
Cons: black depth, remote, backlight
Summary: This tv has a relatively low price point and should be considered a bargain compared to the competition. Many connectivity options are available, including 3 hdmi inputs. HDTV picture quality is fairly nice - esp in comparison to my main set, panny ph509uk.
Level of black detail is not great - contrast is 1000:1 which is somewhat low. The remote is horrible and viewsonic is not part of the universal remote system. The LCD backlight level is not controllable on this tv, another con. SDTV is acceptable, 6-7 out of 10 - tv settings need to be adjusted to get the most out of the picture and even then, it could be better.
Features I do not use:
PIP features are crippled, one input must be HDMI to use this function.
OTA HD tuner is quirky.
Conclusion:
-Great as a second tv (bedroom or game room), I would not recommend as a main set.
-Set has more features than other sets at this price point.
-If you have the money, you can spend 1.5x and get a better set.
-If you view a lot of HDTV, then this set is for you. If you only view SDTV, then get a different set.

While this set does reasonbly well as a pc moniter and dvd movie watching . This would be better served as a second set for another room.
The no universal remote axcess makes this one fall into the catagory wish i would have known before i got it.
Sound is subpar, picture quality is good,
writing for weather or bottom of the picture screen choppy
