"Good TV, yet has flaws"3.5 starson by IronBar
Pros: Great picture, easy setup, user friendly.
Cons: The audio on the TV is absolutely awful.
Summary: Now I don't know for sure if I have a malfunctioning unit or not, but I set up my unit last night. The main thing I noticed right away was the humming sound right out of the box. It seemed to quiet down after a time.
However, the speakers on this TV are crappy at best. The sound is tinny and flat, almost annoying. I attempted to hook up the RCA cables from the TV to my home theater- same result, AND it seemed as if there was barely any signal from the V to the receiver. I had to crank the volume on the receiver to hear what lousy audio there was.
So I ended up reconnecting the satellite box to the VRC and running the audio from there to the receiver. Now the audio is just fine, so, even though it will take some tweaking with the universal remote I have, it will be a helluva lot better than before. I guess when I spend this much on a TV, I expect the sound to at least be passable. With this unit it definitely is not. If anyone has any suggestions to clarify the audio on the TV itself I'd love to hear them.
Anyway, the TV itself is easy to connect to all your other components. The owners manual is relatively easy to read. The on-screen menus though are quite small compared to the actual screen size, and so it was disappointing the I actually had to get out of my chair 15 feet away to see what was on the screen during setup.
The picture on this unit is good. Standard TV broadcasts look marginal of course, but there is no image skip. I will be getting the HD package from Dish Network soon so I'll have to report back on that once it's installed. DVD's look fine too. Can't wait until they standardize HD DVD formats.
All-in-all I think this unit is worth it. I just wish the damned sound were better.
