"We love it!"on by DSychev
Pros PRICE! $1469 at Sams Club.
Cons Food Network on big screen makes me hungry
Summary We bought it to replace the heavy old Sony Trinitron 27in, (which broke down 1 day after the warranty expired, and now works only as a A/V monitor).
Watching regular TV programs on wide-screen is a little weird. It's like everyone just gained weight and become more chubby and round.
Picture is awesome (unless you are 1 foot away, then you can see how grainy regular TV programs look), enough inputs for all your Video sources - DVD, VCR, Cable, Antenna, XBOX, PC.
By the way, I now have excellent way of watching downloaded movies on big screen! When you're feeling lazy to go to the Blockbuster, log on to Movielink or Cinemanow, and you got HiDef movie at your fingertips in 5 minutes.
I do not have HD cable, but regular Dish Network channels look pretty good when I'm laying it bed, 10 feet away from the screen.
And with Sams Club exchange policy I don't need to worry about it braking either.
Of course, on the technical side, I chose it over Plazma because I do not want the ESPN logo burned in after a month. I chose it over DLP because I don't feel like replaicing $300 light bulb every 3 to 4 years (and LCD is way thinner too).
Pros Price, Connections, Ease of Setup.
Cons Sound through television not as expected.
Summary I just purchased the Vizio 37 LCD yesterday from Sams. After reading every review possible, I felt I had to take a chance with the unbeatable price and Sams return policy. My wife was initially not very supportive of the purchase but so far she is delighted with the picture. DVD's looked amazing. High Def channels via CableOne here in Joplin Missouri looked great. The local channels do not look very good, but they don't look good on any TV. So the larger image just amplifies their weaknesses. I will be switching to Dish here soon because their lineup of High Def channels is the largest I have found. I will be purchasing a High Def antenna so I can use it on the second input for PIP. Any recommendations for a good antenna that won't break the bank?
Initially I had the sound going through the TV for both DVD and Cable and then on to my Stereo Receiver. But the sound had an echo effect no matter what settings I had on the TV or on my Stereo Receiver. I went ahead and moved the cables directly to the Stereo Receiver and sound is great. It is more an annoyance for my wife. I try to simplify everything for her. I am using RCA cables. My receiver does not have fiber connections. That is another purchase I will have to convince my wife of. Has anyone else noticed this echo effect?
I plugged in the playstation 2 and the images were great. I do not have Component inputs, yet, for the PS2 so I used the Svideo connection from the side inputs. That is pretty convenient. I tested the TV with Tigerwoods 2005 and Madden 2005. I did not notice any blur effects or pixelization. The response time seemed sufficient to me. My son and I will definitely be playing some games on this bad boy so I will keep you informed. Next step is to try my PC with Doom3.
I have not programmed the remote with all my components yet. I will attempt to set this up tonight time permitting. I will keep everyone up to date on my experiences with this unit. Your reviews really helped me make a decision so hopefully I can return the favor to some poor sole. So far I am happy with the purchase.
"Fantastic Value"on by mmurphyva
Pros HDTV Tuner, Value, Size, Performance
Cons Toggle between Inputs, Black Levels, S-video input on the side panel instead of the back
Summary Rather than review a litany of features, I will highlight the items I was looking for in a flat screen HDTV.
I have Directv with a composite video input into the Vizio
1) SDTV: My primary concern was that if I am still watching mostly regular definition television, what would the picture look like? The result: Depends what station you are watching. Some channels and programs look great, others are extremely grainy. On the whole, the postives with HDTV, DVD playback, and many good stations outwieght the ocasiional bad picture
2)When rating the picture and performance of an HDTV, I think you really need to have a great picture source to see what the TV can really do. I thought the picture looked ok in the store, but when I got it home and tuned into an over the air HDTV broadcast I was stunned at the clarity. While the best directv feed only looks OK, I was extremely satisfied with what this TV could actually do with the right signal.
3) HDTV content: When I first viewed HDTV at a friends house, I only saw the network stations broadcast upscaled content with black bars on the side. For most of the newscasts and commerical this remains the standard, however, I was again pleasantly suprised to find many of the prime time programming in full screen 720P and 1080i. Again, this TV shines with that signal input.
Generally speaking, I don't think you can get a better value at this time. I will say that you may really want to size up the space you are buying this TV for. In Costco with all the other huge TVs, this looked small, when I got it home, it almost overwhelmed the bedroom space. My wife almost made me take it back. However, we have gotten used to it and love it.
Pros Sharp HDTV Picture
Cons Wall mounting is a pain and standard TV is grainy
Summary This is a great TV for the price. You simply cannot find a better quality TV with all the bells and whistles for the $1,499 price tag (at Costco). The HDTV quality isn't the end-all-be-all, but then again I do not have a wall of plasma TVs to compare it too. It’s a great picture, but it’s not like looking out the window.
The biggest drawback is the grainy picture when viewing standard TV. I have Comcast cable and this might be due to the signal, but doubt it. The set-up for the wall mounting is a bit odd. It looks completely unsecured. 8 small 1/2" screws hold the TV in place to the wall bracket. I guess it will hold, but I live in San Francisco; I will let you know how it does in the next earthquake. The bracket was recommended by Vizio.
Overall, I am happy with the TV. I would recommend buying it if you are in the market for a flat LCD TV and do not feel like shelling out over $2,000 for a plasma. I watched the super bowl this past Sunday and 90% of my guests were impressed by the picture quality. The other 10% thought it was great, but not equivalent to a plasma TV, but then again neither is the price tag.
Pros Cheap affordable lcd tv. Great picture , sound quality.
Cons The remote control and hanging abilty please read for more information.
Summary I was in the market for an lcd television. After searching, and doing countless hours of research I decided to go with the Vizio lcd tv. I couldn't imagine paying twice as much for the same size tv.
I purchased my tv from Sams club. The tv was $999.87. Since it was under a $1000.00 the extended 3 year warranty was only $79.03,and the warranty goes in effect after the one year manufactures warranty. Not bad for a 4 year warranty. Sams club informed me that if I have any problems with it in the next year while it is under manufactors warranty I could just bring it in the store, and they would replace it with a new one.
Okay, now I waited a month before placing my review of this product to make sure that I was happy with it. I do have a couple of cons that I beleive that I should point out if your in the market for this tv.
1- The remote will only work directly in front of the tv. So if you sit off center of the tv you will have to get up and get in the front of the tv the make the changes. Why have a remote? I have a a dvd recorder that I ran the cable line through first that ran the cable line to the tv, and I just operate the tv on the dvd input.
2- Of course I wanted to hang the tv on the wall, and Sams club had an Easymount backet for $100.00. Of course I thought that was a little high so I purchased one off of ebay for $40.00 with shipping. I got he tilt version of the mount to avoid sun glare. On the back of the tv there are a total of 8 screw holes that you use for the mount. Of the 8 holes you use 4. I used the the holes that where further apart. On most lcd tvs they have more holes and are seperated further. The wholes are in the middle of the tv and only a couple of inches in height from each other. So when you go to hang it, it is bottom heavy so it tilts. After a couple of adjustments I have it the way I want it. So if you purchase this tv, please keep this inconsideration when you buy the mount. It could be just the mount.
After all I really can't complain for the price, and the quality. I'm very happy with it, and I would reccommend it, but I beleive that these are the only flaws that I noticed. Every tv has some flaws.
