"I love it a little more each day." on by austrapino
Pros: Color (with HD feed), Makes a fantastic monitor. Switch between view modes is seemless. Very plug and play.
Cons: Slow switching between feeds (IE HDMI, RGB, Component). Remote (what TV actually comes with a good remote?)t
Summary: For the money, hands down, the best quality and flexability in plasma. Side by side with Sony and LG's best you would be glad you saved the $1500

"Disappointing to say the least" on by kjhayes1975
Pros: Pretty good picture, price
Cons: audio, reliability
Summary: I read the reviews, saw the price, checked it out in the store, and came to the conclusion that this was a good buy. Immediately upon hooking it up, I was pleased with the picture. All in all it's pretty good, although I do know what the other reviewer was talking about with regard to "white dots". I would describe them more as bright splotches. They are not always noticeable, but particularly during dark scenes in movies, they are definitely there.
The audio is the big problem. At first the sound on the TV was fine (not mind blowing, but adequate), but when I tried to use the audio out to hook it up to my stereo, it didn't work. I had to turn the volume on my receiver up to maximum just to hear anything. Then, suddenly after about an hour, it just started to work (thankfully the volume was not on maximum anymore when it kicked in). However, there was a big trade off. The sound quality was dreadful. There was a strange static-like sound that accompanied all dialogue making it very difficult to hear. My wife was going insane watching a movie, and decided to go to bed early because she couldn't take it. After a few more hours trying to figure it out, it then switched back to the original scenario in which the tv itself sounds ok, but now the audio out to the stereo doesn't work.
And I agree with the review complaining about customer service. The guy answers the phone, not with, "How may I help you?", but with "Yeah?" After telling me that they don't really deal with audio-type questions his solution was to just turn off the internal speakers, and connect the DVD player and satellite box directly to the stereo thereby completely bypassing the TV's audio all together.
I'll be returning this TV tomorrow, and based on the other reviewer who also had issues with his replacement TV, I think I'll go a different direction. I am glad so many people are having positive experiences, but for me, I need more reliability. I'm sure if you get a set that is working properly it is a great value for the money, but I think the reliability may be an issue: if not immediately, then in the long run. -
"Best 42" HDTV for the price, great picture after making adjustments." on by tlschlesing
Pros: price, good black colors, great picture and features
Cons: Preset picture settings need to be adjusted.
Summary: I shopped around for the best 42" HDTV (both plasma and LCD). When Vizio dropped the price to below $1200 (Sams Club), buying this TV became a no brainer. The picture quality is excellent, with good black levels. HDTV broadcasts come in great using the built-in tuner. SD shows are also good. I think that the sound quality is good, but could be improved. The preset picture settings are not great, but after making adjustments based on other reviews, the picture is as good as any of the LCD TV's (such as Samsung and LG) that I was considering.
The only other negatives I have noticed is shadows or blurred areas around fast moving objects in SD. I watch alot of sports, and I find this problem to be an acceptable feature of LCD's (not just this TV). If you are a sports nut, check out the plasma and LCD TV's when there is a game on in the store. I did not see this problem with plasmas. This LCD problem will not deter my enthusiasm and endorsement of this TV.
Bottom line, if you were thinking about buying this TV, You will not be disappointed with its picture or its price. -
"so far i'm on the fence" on by madbomber31
Pros: No ghosting on screen, nice picture after adjustments made
Cons: sound is BAD! out of the box picture is very dark and dull
Summary: i've only had the set 24 hours... i returned an akai plasma to purchase this one and so far i'm torn...
on one hand this vizio has no glass glare on the screen which is a plus, it has a good picture after you adjust (play with it as much as possible), great HD tuner and picture...
on the other, the menu option leaves a lot to be desired... you cant see hours watched or even set the time, but i guess thats what clocks are for.
the sound quality is downright poor if you've had a good sounding tv before.
video games look great despite what i've heard about LCD's having a "lag" on them... sports? football looks good, what more can you ask for?
Bottom line from me: for this price if you are switching from a crt or regular old tube tv you will be stunned... if you are stepping down from a plasma or high end LCD you may need an adjustment time...
worth every penny? yes. -
"Great Look, Better Price" on by mulleert
Pros: Outstanding picture quality. Ease of use. Hookup and Quick Cheap road to HD
Cons: Picture adjustment Presets are terrible unless you hook up to with rabbit ears
Summary: This is the best tv for the money, I had this TV narrowed down between a samsung plasma, samsung DLP,and this vizio LCD. Based upon the three I had narrowed down I do not think any of these TV's would have been bad. Botom line this TV looked the best for the money. I have direct tv and I had to make some adjustments out of the box. I also went out and bought a 13.00 antenna. All I can say is WOW. The antenna picked up NBC(HD), FOX(HD), and CBS(HD). The picture was awesome and I didnot have to pay a monthly fee to get them. The presets out of the box work better on the antenna. This set is awesome!!
