"Excellent TV in Low Price!" on by pcnewsdiary
Pros: + Low price
+ Excelent remote control, dvr
+ Works well from antenna
+ Colors and black levelsCons: - Images marred by digital artifacts
- Sound qualitySummary: Upgraded from a 36" Sony Wega. I did a lot of research and basically settled on the fact that I would be buying a Vizio based on the 240 Hz, the pricing and the reviews. I really wanted to get the sv422xvt because I liked the idea of the internet apps. I waited for the pricing to come down on it and it never did.
As far as the sv421 is concerned, the HD channels are incredible. There was a little bit of distortion for some of the March Madness games we were watching. We turned the smoothing on high and decreased the sharpness and that helped a little. Still, the image was extremely clear. The sound is okay. Nothing great. I hooked it up to our stereo and it greatly improved the sound. Unfortunately our cable provider still has a large number of analog channels. Some of the channels actually look pretty close to HD, but there are several that look pretty grainy. I think the grainy images are even more apparent because of the difference in the image quality of the HD channels. For anyone that does not receive any HD or digital channels, these HD LCD's might not be the right TV for you.
Setting up the TV is fairly easy. Most people should be able to handle it. The biggest problem was moving out our old TV which weighed 150 lbs. So far no plastic smell with the new TV.
Overall I am very pleased with the purchase and would recommend it. I am now trying to decide if I should purchase the extended warranty through Vizio. I also have read good things about the extended warranty that is offered here by Square Trade. I also would like to buy a Blue Ray player. Maybe I will go with a Vizio again.
P.S. I bought this TV in low price guarantee and also free shipping at www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JPCVBK?ie=UTF8&tag=othersitecomment-20&********=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&************=B002JPCVBK -
"The view of HD channels are breathtaking" on by mvdon
Pros: Easy to Set Up
Picture was good right out of the box
Remote handles all my accessories and feels good in my hand.Cons: No Clock
Not sure about the audio inputsSummary: VIZIO SV471XVT 240HZ 47" HDTV.
I know this is a little lengthy but my brand new VIZIO SV421XVT HDTV for our living room and this set is absolutely awesome and has all the bells and whistles.
I mean right out of the box I connected my DVR Comcast cable box. Standard picture was nice but when I switched over to a HD channel my jaw dropped. Snow covered mountains and wildlife. The HD picture was breathtaking.
I started patting myself on the back when my wife expressed a very pleased kiss on the cheek saying. "OMG the picture is beautiful and so sharp and clear WOW good job honey"
I got mine Monday evening. I set the picture mode on VIVID and Monday Night Football was crystal clear and the uniform colors really popped switched over to watch HBOHD movie for a minute picture still set on VIVID (one of many viewing modes) and in this particular movie shot of the front steps of a courthouse leading to the street, the picture was so clear, clean and smooth I can only compare it to my wife's Soap Opera shows. The picture had that the of appearance was 3D like. Very smooth. Got right up to it and saw no lines what so ever. Almost looked LIVE but it was a movie. The staged Hollywood shots of a residential neighborhood the manicured front lawns and landscape of the peoples homes were so vivid you could tell that the plants and flowers were fake they looked plastic. A little to VIVID maybe. That?s what I?m talking about.
My 55" Mits rear projection HDTV downstairs in my family room that I bought about 7 years ago was top of the line then. The Mit?s TV was calibrated and looks good but the picture on the 240HZ Vizio SV421XVT HDTV is in a class of its own. Just spectacular and the remote runs everything and is easy to program.
Yesterday I came into work with a mission to find the formula to calibrate my Vizio just out of curiosity if maybe I could make the picture even better. So I started googling for calibrations and found about 4 calibration formulas done from calibration disks by people with the SV471XVT and only found 1 for my SV421XVT".
Assuming the similarities I printed the pages out for both and took them home. When I did the calibration for my 42? HDTV the changes in the setting were so minimal compared calibrations to the original.
For example: BACKLIGHT originally out of the box was set at 100 calibration setting off internet was 98. Any of the other calibrations were like 1 or 2 clicks - or + difference.
So in my opinion the default settings in picture setting are SPOT ON right out of the box so your sets settings should be also. The calibration changes I got off the internet were barely even noticeable after I entered them and looked at the picture. I reset the picture back to its original default settings. Perfect
It's your personal viewing preference of how you like your movies, sports, and broadcasts to look.
From what you say about the money you want to spend the SV471XVT is around 11 to 1200 and I?ve seen it cheaper.
This set is ready for the future. Mine has 3-4HDMI inputs. Can input Computer, MP3 and Photo and Video Camera.
I have it hooked up to a brand new Vizio Sound bar that I bought off of E-Bay for $156 so your have the extra money to pick one up if you like. They run about $350 regularly. The 47" SV471XVT has a clock and a built in equalizer. The only difference I read between the two sets.
As you can tell I'm very happy with my new Vizio. I think you would be also. Just my 2 cents. Happy Hunting. Mike -
"Broke after 2 weeks" on by dlhomesolutions
Pros: Fantastic Picture quality, 240hz produces a very smooth image. Almost too real. USB port is cool. Remote features are nice. Lots of HDMI ports and optical output
Cons: BROKEN~!!! The video processor broke after 2 weeks. REDICULOUS. The TV just went black one day. I could change the channel and hear sound, but no video whatsoever.
Summary: Great TV if you don't get one that is broken. Vizio should provide faster warranty service. Actually, perhaps they need more quality control so that they do not ship out defective units.
They tried to give me a hard time about the warranty also because I bought it from dell and the email proof of purchase was not enough. I had to fight like crazy to get them to send a replacement which they say will be here in 7-14 business days!!! -
"Good TV So Far" on by ac17
Pros: Excellent picture
Cons: Lacking some functions
Summary: I tried to post my review on VIZIO's site but they refused to publish it - why??
The SV421XVT is an excellent TV with amazing picture. The remote is also very good with backlighted buttons and lots of functions.
However, so far I find several disappointing functions:
There is no TV Guide like other competitors, the Guide button only gives the same banner info like the Info button, and not a listing of all the local digital channels.
The PIP/POP function only works with different inputs and not the same input, for example, you cannot watch two local channels at the same time.
There is no clock, but the time zone is an item in the menu which is ridiculous.
The available screen formats ? Panoramic, Zoom, Full and Stretch are not as good as Sony as they stretch too much horizontally making everyone too short and fat.
Hopefully, this TV will be reliable and last as others have reported problems. -
"This is a decent TV, but there are better ones." on by Gene Taylor
Pros: You get a lot of tv for the price, compared to others of similar size. It was very easy to setup and the picture quality was pretty decent.
Cons: This model has been replaced with the sv422xvt, which provide internet access wirelessly to run apps like Netflix. It its only about $850 in Sams Club or Frys. I don't think it provide a nice enough visual contrast and that affects the picture.
Summary: When I purchased this tv at the time, it was based on price and decent interviews. Nothing was physically wrong with the tv, but I alway sensed that the picture quality could be better. Mainly in the area of light and dark colors next to each other. It appeared that the intensity of each color was compromised by the adjoining color. Contrast! When I realized that my Samsung monitor/hdtv provided a much better image with the same signal source, I took the Vizio back and bought a Samsung ln40c630 for less money.
