"Poor Quality Control" on by nonebeter99
Pros: Great picture. Excellent features.
Cons: Annoying buzzing and high pitch noise being emitted by TV.
Summary: I purchased the VP42 a little over two weeks ago. I was impressed with the feature set and picture quality, considering the low price and off brand. Sadly, I had to return it. After a few hours of use, I noticed a very annoying high-pitch sound being emitted by the TV. It wasn’t coming from the speakers, it was coming from the back of the TV and I could hear it even when the speakers were muted. It was so irritating that I took it back to Costco and got another unit. Within 10 minutes of the new TV being on, I started hearing the same noise. It also has a slight buzzing noise you can hear at low volume. I returned the plasma and picked up the 37 Vizio LCD. Once again, I am disappointed. The top half of the screen is obviously brighter than the bottom half…..it must be a backlight problem. I love the features and the picture quality on the Vizio TVs, but I think there are too many quality control issues with the company. Also, don’t bother trying to contact the company for anything. I called and waited on hold for 2 hours before I finally hung up. Then I sent two e-mails to their support department and never heard anything back after two weeks.

"Fantastic deal on a great monitor" on by charlie321
Pros: Beautiful case design, surprisingly good sound from built-in speakers, smart QAM receiver, improved remote from previous models.
Cons: Maximum brightness might not be high enough in certain environments, analog video looks fuzzy and/or blurry, aspect ratio settings can be confusing.
Summary: I picked this up at Costco's Black Friday sale for $999 and hung it up in our master bedroom today. Looks fantastic, especially on the HD channels. My 10 year old son was a little unnerved while watching Jeopardy in HD. He said, "It looks too real." Other models I was considering were the Panasonic and Philips 42" plasma screens. The Philips picture was vastly inferior to both the Vizio and the Panasonic. It was both washed out and dim by comparison. The big surprise was how good the Vizio looked when compared to the Panasonic. Very nearly indistinguishable in HD, though the Panasonic was significantly better in analog SD. That feature alone might have been reason enough to get the Panasonic, given the similar retail price point. But the deep discount on the Vizio made it an offer I couldn't refuse. I'll probably pick up the Panny 50" for my family room. Then again, the Vizio 50" is currently on sale for $1499, which makes it a hard decision all over again.

"Very good picture quality, easy set up, yet has annoying buzz." on by roblund
Pros: Extremely easy setup. Very good picture quality, that's better than the LCD. I actually like the sound quality, even though it's a little thin.
Cons: Only complaint is the high-pitch buzz from the back of the set, might be a return issue. Does anyone else have this issue?
Summary: I bought this TV at Costco for 999.99. Looked at sets for an 1/2 hour. After looking, I decided to go with the 42" plasma over the 37" LCD. The deciding factor was that the plasma looked better for movies, especially dark ones( Sci-Fi movies ). I initially was going to choose the LCD, since I recently purchased the Nintendo Wii, but my friend pointed out; in movie viewing, you tend to notice image quality more than when playing video games.
Set up was a breeze; plug and play. I am waiting for the HDMI cable I ordered ( Apple site; 19.95 cheap price point because it's for their iTv), so I have'nt seen a movie in 720p. In 480p, movies look good, but older movies need to be upscaled to 720p. I have to say that the initial color quality is very good when first plugged in, and better when tweaked. My nintendo Wii looks good, yet a little dark.
HERE'S THE MAJOR DEAL BREAKER-
There is a high pitch buzz ( like an old computer ) out of the back of the set. The buzz will not go away! I will probabaly return it, even though the set looks great. I will test another one at Costco, to see if it is not just mine. I 've read one complaint about the buzz already. If the other set at Costco does buzz also, I will get the 37" LCD. Also the heat from the set is a nonfactor; not very hot, especially not from 8 feet away, which is the recommended viewing distance.
DOES ANYONE ELSE HEAR THE BUZZ FROME THE TV?
Please post, if so!!! -
"You get what you pay for" on by Gjutsn
Pros: Inexpensive, good HD quality
Cons: Defect rate and slow customer service
Summary: I bought this TV in November during the day after thanksgiving. Four months and a few days later, this TV started going off by itself several times a day. I verified that the timer was turned off. I just ordered the SHARP AQUOS 1080P.
The Visio is going back to Costco this week. -
