"Average Joe opinion" on by jdub4

Pros: PQ, good SD PQ, connectivity, and of course size/cost ratio

Cons: It doesnt do my dishes.

Summary: I originally was looking at LCDs for the usual reasons; no risk of burn in, less power consumption, higher resolution etc. BUT every time I would go in to check them out I just couldn’t pull the trigger. In my opinion the response time (8 ms average right now) just isn’t quite there yet for the LCDs. I play games and watch a lot of fast moving sports so I just couldn’t get past the ghosts on fast moving objects, even on the high end brands. Maybe I’m just sensitive to it. I would have loved to wait another year since the technology is jumping so fast but just couldn’t do that. As it is the VP50 just looked better to me than all of the LCDs and on par with all but the best plasmas so I bought it. So far Im very happy. Great inputs, good PQ and viewing angle. Love the HD and appreciate the SD quality. It has all the bells and whistles a beer drinking pizzia eating guy like me needs. The only thing it needs at this point is football season.
I spent hours reading reviews and forums and this is a quick run down on what I read:
Higher returns at the 2 big clubs but they sell 3/1 so the numbers actually seem to be in favor of Vizio.
Some users reported a buzz or hum sound when the unit is powered on. (I haven’t)
Pink lines across the screen (possibly due to power consumption issues). Sometimes leading to the caps poping. (havent seen any)
Puts out a lot of heat and uses a lot of power. (it’s a plasma)
Overscaned images. (I haven’t noticed any)
You can scare yourself away from any product if you read enough so I try to keep it in perspective. I havet seen any of this on my VP50 to this point. My main worry is burn in but the image cleaner and my warrantee offsets that. Experts can probably pick this TV apart but obviously I’m no expert. It just a big beautiful tool to me. My eyes and my wallet had more to do with my purchase than anything I read and so far they are both very happy. If any of that changes I will update this.
