"Out of Service after 3 1/2 Years" on by icogburn
Pros: Price and no other
Cons: The tv has gone out of service after 3 1/2 years, well past warranty date. I had loved it until I couldn't find a repair man and then was told it would cost $1K to fix it. I paid over $2200 for it in 2006. Since when do tv's only last 3 1/2 years.
Summary: Short life, costly repairs

"Stay away from VIzio products, their support sucks!" on by tnycman
Pros: none. maybe the cheap price, but you get what yu pay for..
Cons: Support don;t assist at all, they don;t honor their warranty..
Summary: Bought 42 inch plasma from Vizio and 7 month later it died, called their support and they did troubleshoot was turning off and waiting for a minute. That did not do a thing. They looked at the serain mumber and said that this product is under warranty, however they need the receipt, which i didn;t have. My only option was to take pictures and email it to them, if the problem is not to expensive the "may" fix it. Send pictures twice nothing happen, called them again and i was told they will call me within the next 24 hours, that didn;t happen. My advise DO NOT buy this product eventhough the price might look attractive, its no worth in the long run.

"Wow... Sweet deal for a 50" Full HDTV!" on by shawn67mustang
Pros: When mated with the Playstation 3....... I found it required no setup changes. Perfect out of the box.
Cons: The only flaw i could find is no variable audio outputs. the audio outputs are set and forces you to change volume on your audio system.
Summary: As with any purchase.... do your home work! UNLESS you want a Vizio! This purchase was a no brainer!

"Awesome 50" TV" on by savagefamily
Pros: Price, Quality, Clarity, contrast ratio, size
Cons: edge adjustment for inaccurate transmission, but not very noticeable
Summary: You can't beat the quality and price of this TV. Bought this at Costco. Everything comes with a two year warranty. I've researched tv's for two years and this one has been the best value for the price. It's 50"s. That's crazy. No one else comes close to the value. Kudos Vizio.

"Great picture but can't skip OTA digital channels" on by MG2009
Pros: Best picture I've seen in a 50" set in this price range.
4 HDMI inputs with 2 of them on the side.
Does good job of displaying standard definition content which is very difficult on a screne this large.
JP1.3 programmable remoteCons: Only one component input. Disfunctional tuner. Slow to change channels. Can not manually add or delete channels - only automatically scan for them. Only ANALOG channels can be skipped. Blocked channels show up anyway as you scroll up/down.
Summary: Using ANTENNA.
If you type in the channel number of a channel that was not found when doing the auto-scan, the TV just stays on the channel it is on. You can not manually add or delete channels, or manually select a channel that is not in the list.
You can not skip digital channels (only analog channels are listed in the "skip channels" menu). The analog channels are going away in February anyway, so this feature is going to become rather obsolete since no analog channels will be found when doing the autoscan anyway.
When viewing TV, the aspect ratio is fixed. 4:3 content gets stretched to fill the entire screen on some channels and not on others. Although this might be the fault of the broadcaster, the user should have manual override capability.
Guide feature is awfull. You can not see what is on a channel other than the one you are viewing without actually switching to that channel. Everyone should be using the TitanTV.com layout for their guide info. My $50 zenith tuner (which cost about $10 when I used the gov't issued coupon) has a better guide, changes channels faster, and I can skip channels I don't wat to see. I can also adjust the aspect ratio with it. If it had component out instead of composite I'd probably hook it to this plasma set and use it instead of the built-in tuner but it doesn't (and the set only has one component input which is taken up by the DVD player).
Only 1 component input. If I wanted to keep the set and use an external tuner with decent functionality, I'd have to find one with HDMI output.
No discrete codes are published. I could program my URC-8910 remote to take care of most of my issues if Vizio would publish the codes.
I talked with tech suport for about 45 minutes this morning. They told me I could skip a digital channel (all sub channels) by selecting it in the list that shows up in the menu. I informed them that I have every single channel selected to "skip" except one, and I am still seeing 17 digital channels as I scroll thruogh the list with my remote. Their reply was "Well then your television does not have that functionality". I want to eliminate one complete channel, (which has 4 sub channels) and a single subchannel on two others. I have no way to do this.
Vizio could fix this problem with a firmware upgrade. The set has a "block channels" feature. I can block all the channels I want to skip. The problem is - they still show up in the list as I scroll!!! Instead of seeing the show, I see a blue banner with a lock in it and the word BLOCKED for about 2 seconds before I'm able to increment to the next channel. If blocked channels would simply be skipped, I'd have what I want (except the tuner is till very slow).
