"Great TV except for PC interface"
on by junebob1Pros Awesome picture quality and wireless connectivity.
Cons Streaming from a PC using HDMI is a problem.
Summary I bought this TV based on the good reviews and for the most part, I am very satisfied with it. The reviews are right on....except for one area. I intended to stream video and audio from my laptop PC to the TV to watch shows from Hulu and other online services. I attached a HDMI cable from my Dell laptop to the Vizio XVT473SV and things seemed good. The laptop recognized the TV and vice versa. When I streamed a movie from Hulu though I found a problem.....no audio. I checked all connections and audio setup features on both devices but my laptop was unable to stream audio to the Vizio using the HDMI cable. My laptop's sound controls wouldn't even allow me to switch it to the HDMI output. My only options in the control panel were the PC speakers or the S/PDIF output. The HDMI audio driver wasn't available. Lo and behold I checked the Vizio owners manual which states that you must use the HDMI cable for video and a separate 3.5mm cable for audio when attaching a PC! I have never had this problem before. The great benefit of using HDMI is that it carries both video and audio signals....I guess just not when using a Vizio LCD. I have a 37" Olevia LCD upstairs that accepts HDMI video and audio without a problem. To get things like Hulu to work on the Vizio, I have resorted to streaming from my laptop to my Sony receiver (using the same HDMI cable that wouldn't work when connected directly to the Vizio), and then the Sony receiver outputs video to the Vizio and audio to a Sony soundbar. As soon as I plugged the HDMI cable into my Sony receiver, my PC gave me the option to stream audio using HDMI. I wish the Vizio did that.
All in all, I am pleased with the quality of the XVT473SV. I would think that a firmware update might be able to fix this problem with the PC audio but I will have to wait and see. Until then, it gets 3 out of 5 stars. Resolve the PC audio problem and it gets 4.5! -
"Excellent Picture Quality"
on by Raptor7Pros Excellent performance for the price
Cons Have not experience any
Summary After 3 months of research and shopping online to replace my 5 year old Sony 50" LCD I choose the Vizio XVT473SV. I have no regret in choosing the Vizio. I basically picked this model because of the performance reviews and price. The picture is outstanding in both Bluray and TV performance. At times it even seems to have a little 3D effect when playing Bluray's. Setup was easy, the remote and onscreen menu's are very well laid out. I didn't much care about the internet apps this model came with until I started playing around with them and became very impressed with them. You can even sign on to your eBay account, do searches and also do biding. I decided to use the built-in WiFi 802.11n and it was easy to connect to my Linksys G-Router and it gets an excellent signal at full bandwidth. What was even more impressive was from one of the internet apps, I could stream 1080p movies to the TV and it was Bluray quality ! When the TV is off it will update your firmware and internet apps automatically. Right now I am very happy with this TV and hopefully it will last a long time.

"Great picture, but can't live up to their promises."
on by flguy67Pros Very clear HD picture.
Cons Not able to get PIP, one of the reasons I purchased it.

"TV has potential to be great, but has issues."
on by kuematsuPros Picture looks great.
Cons Tempermental, and possibly flawed. Reboots itself, turns itself off, and sometimes just freezes up requiring a power down.
Summary Have had the tv for a week. Great picture but is a pain in the butt. Whenever I first turn the tv on (1st use of the day or after an extended time being off), the tv starts up with audio crackling and the picture is either pixelated or frozen. After a couple of minutes, it seems to reboot - turns itself off, the VIZIO light flashes, and a few minutes later it comes back on and everything is fine. This happens every time. Takes about 5 minutes total. Not sure if I have it setup incorrectly since it does evetuantually adjust itself, or if it is a real issue with the set. When it comes back on though, the picture looks great and it works fine (although for reasons I do not know, it will also turn itself off or go black and I have to unplug it for it to start up again. Any help would be greatly appreciated - Vizio did not recognize the problem when I called. I may return it.

"It broke after only two weeks."
on by ekbarkerPros Great Picture. Love the remote with keyboard.
Cons It has a mind of it's own.
Summary I bought this TV primarily on CNET's review. I must have gotten a lemon. I bought it on 10/03/10. Worked great for two weeks then problems began. First, a couple of the HDMI slots quit working, then the sound started becoming inconsistant, then the ultimate happened.... Last night during Monday Night Football. it decided to turn it's self off. I could turn it back on and did so several times but after 10 to 30 seconds it would turn off again. Try watching a game under those conditions! ! ! I tried again today and same results so it wasn't that the VIZIO just didn't want to watch the Cowboys. I'm very disappointed but may try another to see if it was just my bad luck on this set.
